I just got home after visiting my dad for the second time this year. It's been about a month and a half since he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In the month since I last saw him, he's lost about 30lbs. Back when he was diagnosed, he was told 6 months at the most, though if he was a fighter, he might squeeze his 66th birthday in December, pushing it to my 36th next January if he was truly lucky.

After seeing him today, I'm almost positive that I just saw him for the last time. Last I saw him, despite the gash in his chest from lung surgery only a couple weeks earlier, he was still moving about with ease, and capable of being active. Today however, he can barely walk from his living room chair to the front door, with the assistance of a walker, let alone do the same without being out of breath.

As it is, I don't think he'll see the end of March Madness.


Most of the conversations today did little to help, though they were very much needed. Important issues such as funeral arrangements, inheritances, etc. not typically things you want to discuss with parents, at least not this close to them passing on. I honestly hoped I'd have more time, but unfortunately, time is very quickly running out.
