After many, many years of trying, I finally managed to qualify for a Major tournament! Recently my
Wandering Feathers managed to win the
Light Lantern for Ulthuan Invitational XII! I have to admit that I didn't play all that well, but I had Nuffle on my side during the three qualification games.
In the
first round we faced
SC Lost People. An early snake on a pass roll made the humans lose the ball early in the first half. I recovered it and managed to stall until turn 8 to open the score (although I lost the ball myself in turn 7 and I had to steal it back). In the second half the Wandering Feathers managed to score a relatively easy second touchdown for 2-0. I miscalculated the opposing one-turning capacities though, and the humans came back to 2-1 with one turn left to play. Luckily there wasn't a Blitz! or a riot on the last kick-off...
In the
second round our high elves played against the
Silver Dart Frogs. This time a first turn Blitz! ruined the opposition's drive, eventually resulting in the Feathers getting the ball and leading with 1-0 by half-time. The leaping frogs didn't stop complicating our life, but it wasn't enough to stop the second touchdown: 2-0 with five turns remaining on the clock. It proved difficult to stop the Slann's offensive drive and two turns later it was 2-1. The best of the game was reserved for the end. In the remaining three turns I would lose the ball twice, but recover it each time. I almost ruined it in the end, but eventually the third strip attempt would fail. So the Feathers would play the final!
In the
final the Wandering Feathers faced Lustrian Challenge winners
K"Chain Che'Malle. This time a late epic ball steal sealed the game. Deep in the second half, with 1-1 on the scoreboard, a leap into the cage cut the ball loose. With the help of Nuffle the elves managed to succesfully evacuate it and steal the win.
The Light Lantern is ours, Ulthuan's honour will be defended by the Wandering Feathers!
