I assume you got the internet version of netflix and not the dvd-by-mail version. With that assumption, be warned that netflix will pull shows from the queue for no good reason, with no warning, and while you may be in the middle of a season :)
But in spite of that, I have enjoyed netflix more for watching television shows than for watching movies.

I'd say stick with Fringe, the 1st Season isn't all that but when it starts to get into the proper stroyline and doesn't have as many case of the week episodes it starts to get really good.

Er the last episode of season 1 is awesome. Just don't look at the credits rolling across the screen at the beginning (or check on the interwebs) - it'll ruin the surprise!

I actually quite liked the last series of dexter. its obviously gone down hill a little but its still good and with only two series till it is finished I will be watching till the end.
Fringe is quite slow to begin with but it really gets very good after the first two series if you can wait that long.
But my favourite two series are The Wire and The Shield.
If you haven't seen them, do so, they are brilliant, similar subject matter in both, but the Wire is the realistic interlectual one and the shield is the slightly trashy, more violent and fun one.
Other series to watch are Homeland which is brilliant and the Killing. Though the original Killing (Forbrydelsen) was much better than the American remake. I would recommend that too, if you dont mind subtitles.

Dexter is a fantastic series, possibly my favourite. The development of Dexter is great to watch. But the repetitiveness (though not as bad as in 24) in elements of the stories is getting clear now. I would have preferred a 6 or 7 series total I think to avoid any drag but the storywriters always seem to come up with good ideas each series. Looking forward to the next! Wire is great too.

Gary, I dunno, you speak of a development of Dexter. I see a completely different person. The original dexter was cold and calculating and didn't care much for his victims.
The new Dexter is all consumed by anger and seeks relations with his victims victims like it matters. Overall I find the "developed" Dexter rather immature and much less likeable. Feels like very different people write the stories.
