Idea for a league... or not?
Update: The Elven Kingdoms league is recruiting!

Currently I am thinking about an 'all elven' league for a couple of reasons. Firstly I really enjoyed to additional depth a league can offer during my first sprint in the 145 Graduation League. Directly followed by my preference for a fast and mobile playstyle.

After reading about the E.L.F metagroup I thought the absolute opposite may be fun as well: Different elven teams competing for the title of the Elven Kingdoms. While formats like the X.F.L offer the race specific qualifiers for the official rosters I did not find a metagroup for all elven rosters including the available Secret League 2020 Rosters.

So, the basic idea was set and I started to work on the ruleset for the league. It was quite clear to me that I wanted to stay as close to the current ruleset of the competitive division as possible, even if a spiked ball for elfs was appealing. ;-) To differentiate a bit and considering the wealth of the elven kingdoms a starting budget of 1250k and a higher re-draft cap of 1450k along with a reduced agent fee came into my mind. Since I did not expect too many participants and I liked the idea of the ‘sprint’ in the 145 leagues, I set the season length to 8 games only.

Some minor tweaks like the nomination of three players for the MVP and no treasury spending on inducements for the overdog and the ruleset was almost complete. Missing only the available rosters. Like stated before I wanted to combine the available official and SL2020 rosters for elves but even add a little spice to the league as well. So why not try to create a special roster for the league?

The idea for the ‘Elven Stars’ team is based on the background for the ‘Elven Union’: A team of professional blood bowl players trying to make their fortune without nobility influence or funding impacting the team. But I wanted to focus a bit more on the openness to all elven races of those teams and thus tried to create a roster which combines the stars of all four official elven teams: One Witch Elf and Runner from Naggaroth, a Wardancer and one light Catcher from Athel Loren, a Blitzer and a Thrower from Ulthuan as well as two Catchers from the Elven Union would act as the typical eight positionals all elven teams can work with. So, no backup thrower at high TV, only three catchers, but a lot of different skills to choose from. But no such benefit comes without a drawback. While the positionals form the core of the team, the linemen are even more distrusted ‘fillers’ than in other elven teams. Therefore all positionals have Animosity(Lineman) and all Lineman have Loner (2+).

So in total the league would allow 15 different rosters:

Elven UnionBlack ArkGrey Elf
High ElfHalf-Elf

So what do you think about the leage, ruleset and the Elven Stars team? Happy to hear any remarks and ideas for improvement.

Excellent over-all idea, mate!
If you create this league eventually, I'm in :)

BUT:
- don't use the spiked ball rule, please. Imho, it will simply kill the game.
- in fact, in terms of fluff, your "all-star" team already exists, it's called .... Elven Union ;)
But the idea still sounds good, it looks like the Tilean roster

I'm up for this.

Sounds fun! I think there are some issues with the Elven Stars roster. Witch Elf should probably be 110k not 11k. Dark Elves runners are 80k not 50k.

@DoctorMidnight: The spiked ball idea was only an idea and will not be implemented. Do not fear the additional attrition.;-)

@eranor: Thanks for the feedback. Just corrected it. And I also added a team logo. Unfortunately the smaller versions look odd and with a transparent background even more.

A wardancer, a witch elf and an EU linemen walk into a bar...
And fail their armor checks and are dead.
Sounds like fun, if only there were more hours in a week.

It is done. I finished the group page and set the settings to 'public' and 'recruiting'. So feel free to join.

I applied to the group. I have tried elf leagues in the past, (pre-BB2020) including creating and running them. I found marking all the skills annoying once the teams got large, and games became ridiculous once every bloody elf had block, dodge, side-step, etc.etc.

If this one has redraft set to FUMBBL's anticipated level of 1350 TV or so, it could be quite good, as long as we stick to vanilla BB2020 rules. The 6 pick MVP.. if there is a reason for that.. maybe to prevent dedicated fodder from absorbing all the MVPs for some unlucky teams.. I'd understand. That's about as far away from BB2020 as I'd happily go. I like to keep my leagues good practice for 'real' Blood Bowl in the competitive divisions.

Good luck with this!

@DoctorMidnight and @The_Murker: Welcome to the show. Happy to have you.

Regarding your comment about staying as close to BB2020 rules as possible: I got the same feeling and tried to stick to them with only the minor deviation regarding MVP (which will hopefully not have a hugh negative impact) and the additional teams. For both cases: If we find out that there is room for improvement, we are free to discuss and adjust.

This is worth a forum post, to get some additional visibility to coaches who don't browse the blogs

@The_Murker: Done. Let's see if we get some more applications.
