CR
I may as well waste my breath and say something on the topic following the posts on CR.

As with any change, their are always those in favour, those not.

I am happy with the new CR, except for the rule that counts the first games with a new team now.

Here follows my rant on the topic.

Yes, some people play for fun and don't care if they win or lose.

However, most people are competitive and want to win.

If people care about winning, it stands to reason that they care about the visible nature of how succesful they are. How is this publically known/visible:
- winning/good performance in tournaments
- well know coaches who have played hundreds and hundreds of games and people know how well they play regardless of stats
- records for individual teams
- CR

Now, for the newer coaches who aren't well known, and haven't played 50 tournies, and who have experimented with many different races, what is the only real public perception of their ability, their CR. So obviously the competitive coach will be concerned about it.

The experienced coach who is highly competitive is likely to be concerned also. I would imagine that a good 50% or more of the top 100 coaches have viewed the CR and aimed to get to #1.

As for the new system, I think it is worse than the old system when talking about the first four games now counting for CR. It discourages the use of the lower tier races for the competitive coach. Why try them if you lose a heap of CR doing so?

As for the arguement of less picking, I think this is dead wrong. I think it will involve more picking. More picking when playing those first 4 games with the experimental teams to reduce the chance of losing.

Consider for a moment the min/maxers out there. The people who sit in the box with 11 man CD teams with 6 CD's with as much claw/MB/PO as they can get and 5 Hobgob's. They are purely and simply aiming to win as much as possible by essentially "picking" in a non-picking environment. They know when they get a game in the box that they are pretty much garaunteed to be a far better basher than their opponent, and they will win many games by having their opponents at a huge player disadvantage in the 2nd half.

Want to make a bet that we don't see a new type of min/maxer. I bet we do. The one that hangs out in ranked, and plays with only new tier 1 teams, and only plays other new teams coached by brand new coaches who are still learning the ropes. By doing only this, they will have a huge win/loss record and a fantastic CR.

They won't do it you say, why won't they? Why are their the box min/maxers now then?

As for me, am I a min/maxer, no.
Will I be, no.
Am I competitive, yes.
Highly, some days.
Do I care about my CR, yes.
Am I super concerned and will do anything to maximise it, no.

Rant over.

\o/ for "Rant over."

Play, win, get better and your CR will follow. Folks that have played here long know who got their CR up by picking and min/maxing and who gets theirs by playing tough challenges and winning. Go ahead and care about your CR, but don't put too much weight in it. There are challenges to all levels of coaches... and CR is only reflective of some of their skill.

I can't see what is worth ranting over?? If you want to play the CR meta game then do the things that will help boost CR. If you care about CR above all else you won't touch lower tier races whatever the method of calculating it is. If someone wants to pick their way to a high CR good luck to them. The three other people in the universe who care are doing the same thing, so the playing field is even.

Seriously dude, go fly a kite or something.

I should have worded it better. Rant is not correct.
These are just my thoughts on the change, a specific part of the change, and why I don't think the reasoning for the change are valid.

I might be wrong.

I am commenting on things I have read:
- one whether people care about CR or not
- two the change

Personally I couldn't care less if someone wants to get to CR #1 by picking all day. But saying the change reduces picking I don't beleive to be true.

only emos and losers care about CR

on the other hand, the lower your CR the easier it is to get a game on R in all liklihood

My CR is 153.24...

I would be such a better person and my life would be a whole lot better if I could get the extra 0.01 to 153.25!

Lol ridiculous comment.

When I say I care about my CR this is not completely true.

What I am interested in is how good a coach I am in comparison to the community, and if I am improving.

It just happens that CR is the easier way of measuring this.

Pretty difficult to know if you are about average as a coach unless you can compare to the entire community.

Although given that any measure of CR is floored anyway, then obviously the measure isn't that accurate anyway.
