Playing slower
Now I know I am not very good at this game, and I am continually impressed with the sneaky moves my opponents pull off to defeat me. However I really think that a large factor in my defeats is my tendency to just start moving players and rolling dice without thinking. I have never once reached the 4 minute time limit and I reckon most of my turns over over within a minute. I am going to try to think for 30 seconds before doing anything on the pitch. Maybe this will help...

Nah, play more quickly and you get more matches played!

Sounds to me that you aren't paying much attention to your opponents turn, going off and doing something else maybe?

Generally, you should have a good idea of what you want to do before his turn is over. And then of course there are usually a few things, you need to do automatically, that take no dice. Pick players up, move into position etc.

However, yeah, you should take a little time to think through what you do. If all your turns take under a minute, that pretty quick.

Great plan. I am trying to take a bit more time with my Nurgz.

that's fine as long as u keep turns around 2 mins :-) long turns just lame :p

That is one reason a lot of people don't want to play against legends Piggy. ;)

hehe I understand slower turns when moves are complex I just dislike all round slowness :-0)

i'm not sure if it's all the drugs or not but i have to play slow

Definatly a good idea. Will probably improve your chances by a lot. If not anything else, this is a game where you need great focus to be successfull. Especially being able to correctly tell the distance in squares between pieces and the TD-line is an absolutely determining aspect for winning or losing the game.

Playing slow is for the weak, if your turns take over 60 seconds... you need more practise! ;)

I am generally pretty good about focussing on my opponent's turn but I think I just get so excited when it is my turn I often forget about things like protecting the ball carrier....

The opponent turn is rather wayne. You can only plan when you know that the board will look like.
Planning during the other guys turn is maybe a lesson a slow coach needs to learn. Certainly not you. You are already fast.

I disagree. If you feel you are playing too fast, you are playing without a clear idea of what you are doing.

If you aren't paying attention in your opponent's turn, you will generally have less of an idea, on what you want to do.

There are many ways where this is a benefit.

1. While watching your opponent's individual players move, this gives you ideas.
2. You can see the roles, your opponent's players have been put in.
3. Some of your players, will now need picking up, or out of position and need moving back. Whilst your opponent is finishing his moves, you have time to ponder what to do with these, no dice needed players.
4. You can study your opponent's styles, weaknesses and strengths. You have more time to reflect on this, and ponder ways to combat them.

These are just some reasons off the top of my head. I, certainly don't watch my opponents every game, every turn. I do other things, but if I feel it's important or tight, I will do so.

play soft races. you will get beat up, have less players, turns get shorter.

thinking is over-rated --- i'm serious here.

get the feel of the game and things become zen like, natural, like yeah

Aaah, but you have nore than 4700 games in. Seventyone has just over 200. Autopilot will work better for some people than others.

But also people get different things out of the game. If I didn't want a bit of thinking I'd play something else probably tetris. Depending on the day I might not want too much thinking which um... may be why CPOMB remains popular. ;)
