400 games (and counting!)
I've toyed with writing a summary of my experiences for some time now and this seems like the perfect excuse.
I started playing Blood Bowl when the Legendary edition of the Cyanide game came out. I spent some time in the single player to learn the game (I'll always be a little sad that one of my favourite players, an ag5 Norse lineman, is stuck in there.) After I while I ventured out and played online, which was a lot more fun. I think I played some 40 odd games on there, though I don't really remember it all too well. Could’ve been more, could’ve been less. The game was somewhat cumbersome though and when I couldn't access my regular computer and had to play on a laptop where the game wasn't installed on I sought my bb fix elsewhere, namely here. Unlike the majority here I don’t consider the Cyanide version all that bad though. It surely has its problems, but it’s still a fun game. I’ve grown to love Fumbbl however and I wouldn’t want to go back.

I had heard some good things about the Fumbbl community and the level of the coaches on there, but I didn’t really know what to expect. After browsing the forums and looking at how things worked I figured I might as well give it a go and made my first team. For my first game I figured that I might start with something reliable, so I went with Dwarfs. Looking back I don’t really know why, because I had never played with Dwarfs before and they’re far from my favourite team to play with (and against). Anyhow, I drew a very friendly coach with an Ogre team. (I’ve always played in B instead of in R, perhaps it’s a leftover from my Cyanide upbringings, but I do like the randomness of it.) Needless to say, I had a distinct advantage and managed to win my first game.

My next matches were a lot tougher however and it’s been only a short while since I’ve managed to get my winning percentage over 50%. Overall I think that my play has improved but it could certainly be better, especially my positioning. A lot of it is due to not being that concentrated, or not caring to count in some instances, which has come back to bite me a couple of times. I also need to contain my rashness sometimes. I’m under no illusion; I still got a long way to go, certainly when compared to all the veteran coaches on here who have played for 10 years or more!

In the beginning I played a lot of B, but after a couple of months it wasn’t as much fun as when I started here. Mainly because I had found another division, the one I play now almost exclusively: Stunty. I started with Eshin, still one of my favourite stunty teams, and I got beaten quite badly. But I had a lot of fun and soon I started playing more and more stunty matches until I barely even played B anymore. The lightheartedness and chatty nature of most coaches and the wacky plays that follow out of playing with players who have trouble doing even the most basic of ball handling were a lot of fun and a nice change of pace compared to the unforgivenness and min-max nature of the box. Also the continuing support and changes that are made by Whatball make for a surprisingly balanced division that has a lot of flavour. I don’t think that I’ll stop playing stunty anytime soon, although I do plan to play some more matches with my Slann team, if only to have a team for majors.

But you might say: “400 games (and counting) and you haven’t donated a dime towards the site? Shame on you!” And you’re right. But I’ve recently (finally!) managed to find a job so funds won’t be so tight anymore and I can afford to donate something to the site & community that has given me so many fun hours (also some frustrating hours, but I’ll gladly take them too as the ratio is pretty good).

And now: some stats and several of my favourite players. Everybody like stats, right?

-So, 400 games: 169/76/155 of which:

* 154 were in B: 48/27/79 (not such a good record, but I mainly played B in the beginning and my 7/6/22 flings probably don’t help, certainly want to improve this!)
* 11 games in L: 6/1/4
* 235 were in S: 115/48/72

- 86 players killed, against 141 who got killed.

- Only positive stat listed on the profile is touchdowns (472-439).

- Top 3 most matches played:
1) Children's Dream (Halfling): 7/6/22 (35)
2) 'Bad'-epts (Eshin Adepts): 15/8/9 (32)
3) No Gems (Gnome): 12/6/11 (29)

- Best record (>10 matches): Scincids ( Skinks): 15/1/1 (17)
- Worst record (>10 matches): Children's Dream: 7/6/22 (35)

- Damage dealers (>10): Nuffle Save The Gnoblar (Gnoblar): 3.5/game (29/10/3; 12)

- Punching bags (>10): 'Bad'-epts: 4.9/game (119/27/12)

- Deadliest: Children's Dream: 8 kills

- Deadest: Children's Dream & 'Bad'-epts: 12 each

- Most TD’s (>10): Scincids: 2.35/game (40-10)

Some of my favourite players (dead or alive):

- Speed Ticket (Eagle Warrior, Bronzen Zebras): Is quite the ball carrier with his ST3 & blodge. Unfortunately av6 means that he's still getting stabbed like crazy. -Ma did cripple him a bit as he's also used as a sweeper on defence with sidestep and diving tackle. Do wish that I'd given him a fluffier name. Status: -Ma, on the team.

- Rue (Nurgling, Faulty Flowers): Surely one of Nurgle's favourites: +AG, +ST, Block really makes for a welcome addition to the team, especially the +AG on an AG2 team. Rue's used for pretty much anything, preferring to stay behind the line and blitz at the right moment on defence & offence. Status: Niggle, on the team.

- Morgana (Spider Rider, Nasty Squirrels): +AG, Strong Arm and no Stunty means the Squirrels have a pretty decent passing option as well as a stronger ball carrier than usual. The Shamans should be blitzing anyway. Status: Alive.

- Limestone (Gnome, No Gems ): AG5 Linegnome. Was really fun shooting him around. Sadly someone tampered with the cannon and he got reduced to ashes. Probably won't see the likes of him again soon on the team. Status: Pushing up the daisies.

- Squishy (Assassin, 'Bad'-epts) All regular skills save for one double (MB), but assassins don't really need doubles or stats to be great players. (Now, if you want an amazing player...) The one player who's somewhat close to becoming a (my first) legend. Still got a long way to go but despite his name he has proven quite resilient. Having the apothecary almost solely covering you does help with that of course. Can do pretty much anything: passing, blitzing, leaping, ball carrying, stabbing, kicking, sweeping, scoring, being used as bait, etc.
Status: Alive & Scoring

TL;DR: Long Live Fumbbl & Stunty!

Congrats on your 400 games :) was nice hearing your story. I'll do one of these one day...hopefully.

Good luck with your teams. See you on the pitch.
