I'd been warned don't play dwarves with Amazons otherwise you may regret it.
I cant say that I have regretted it, but I learnt a lot more than I expected.
Steel Gauntlets were my opponents. I took them on partly because they were a fresh team (100TR), and because they were Dwarves and I wanted to test my theory about caging vs bashy teams (see previous blog entry).
The first half began with a handicap roll of "Doom and Gloom" against me halving my re-rolls. This had quite an effect reducing my 4 re-rolls to 2, and added to my eventual woes during the first half.
In short;
The kick off bounced back into my own half and so was given to a player of his choice. From here a cage was formed around a runner and 4 longbeards. I couldnt get into the cage and when i tried to move to head it off it moved to avoid it.
By my T3 i was down a BH Lineman, 2 KO'd LIneman a crowd pushed Blitzer and a killed Thrower. And the cage kept moving forward.
He scored on T7.
In the second half i managed to set up a cage with my thrower and 4 blitzers. It lasted 5 turns before being breached and the ball taken from me.
It broke beacuse of a team up by a longbeard, runner and slayer and I could not recover. They managed to get the ball, and i failed to pick it up, and then got smacked around when trying to get it back. He then scored again in T8 - end of game.
game
What have i learnt from this game?
Well....My caging needs practice.
But i knew that.
What I realy learnt from this game, was about my focus. I started the game thining that I needed to contain the longbeards and bring them down as quick as possible, I had even considered fouling but didnt.
I thought this because of the dreaded TACKLE.
But they were not the problem - my biggest problem came from the Slayers with their frenzy ability. This gave them the perfect opportunity to move my players out of the way of his cage.
Likewise when I set my cage up they were able to dismantle it with ease taking players out with two blocks and moving them away from protecting the ball carrier.
And this contributed more to my defeat than anyting else.
Team Development
After the last game I bought an Apothecary - as someone quite rightly pointed out AV7 isnt a lot.
As it turns out they were correct! But an Apoc didnt help me when
Martine Jenny Died. (failed Apoc roll)
Therefore the remainder of the money added to the 30k I gained this match was used to buy another Linewoman to replace the loss.
No players gained any skills
FF stayed the same
30,000 winnings
