Next Week! Next week the Agility Monsters might join again!!
Posted by lizvis on 2013-09-24 18:31:55
very few people want to join because no one makes scheduling a priority (not that scheduling was taken as seriously as it needed to be taken in years or months past), and almost everyone else is a metascheduling doosh now.

don't get me wrong, i'd really like to blame it on the fat hairy guy whose picture is plaguing this blog, but it just wouldn't be true.

I'm sure once I officially announce the Monsters participation (can't promise it for next week right now, but I'll join as soon as I can), we WILL have another legendary SMACK! ;-D

I agree that scheduling is often difficult across more than 2 time zones, and that some coaches are very lazy about doing it, but what do you mean by 'metascheduling'?

+1 for all

metascheduling is trying to schedule the game at a time that is least optimal for your opponent. coach A: 'i can only play at 1100 server time' coach b: 'that's 3AM my time, i can't possibly play then.' coach a: 'well that's the only time i can play.'
then a quick search into the coaches match history reveals that they play games outside of their time availability window quite frequently, even after they declare their availability to their opponent.
there's too much 'i'll play you when we see each other online at the same time' and metascheduling dooshery. THAT'S why smacks are dying off.

Sad times if that is right. Still think you'll have a good case when the admins get on the PM a few days before, if your opponent tried such tricks.

DaCoach: In the end though coaches in a SMACK would like to play their matches and get it knocked out. Having to wait 5 days and then have a admin intervene on day 7 is just not fun. Then if that happens again in week 2? You really have no desire to play in scheduled anything. You just had 14 days to stew over it and then you might just be one of the lucky ones and play in the finals on day 21. 3 weeks to play 3 matches.
A scheduled SMACK if all 8 coaches get on it right off the bat should not take more than 10 days to knock out IMO.
Not saying it is the norm but it is not uncommon.

why not making one day tournaments
4 rounds would only need 7 hours maximum.
