Own rules, then i leave
Ok old ogre team is ok to play with on the site but not on fumbbl majors.

Ok i am a crybaby now and i know its a free site, but I like my ogre team, and as long as they are ok to play with why cant i join majors with them?

PurpleChest have his own rules? Purple dont take this personaly its not against you as a person so no hard feeling from me there, its just that I dont like rules be fixed like this.
I am kicking all my teams now, becouse of this.

Here is the mail i got from PurpleChest, and why should i kick players if i win?

to encourage Ogre teams to transition to CRP i stated i was going to make the maximum number of ogres 10 this year. and then maybe 8 next year.

Yours in the only applicant team with more than 9.

i suggest a compromise. You play round 1 as is, but face round 2, should you win, with max 10 ogres. So will have to retire one. but also you dont have to play a prep game to do so.

What do you think?

well they are no longer CRP and CRP is the ruleset......

so by letter of the Law they dont have to let any 7+ teams play, but they do.

So i dont think the ruling is that bad

Having teams which can't be replicated under current rules is alright for casual games, but bad in a competitive environment. I've always thought the 12-ogre teams camping Majors was utter bollocks, and I'm glad I'm not alone in that line!

Correct decision from PC.

Personally I'd rather not see this rule come in either. I adore grandfathering. In Purplechest's defence, he got the opinion of all the tourney admins about this a while back on this issue, and 10 Ogres in 2013 is pretty conservative compared to the general feedback.
Posted by Synn on 2013-01-09 23:47:35
I think you should have taken the offer he gave you.

CRP says Ogars can have 6. You have 11. The idea of you just playing majors with an illegal team is BS to the rest of us.

I understand you like them, but the spirit of majors is more important than one person's perception of their team.

Rated 6 for admitting you're being a crybaby...

;)

Maybe Jim'll fix it for you to play all your Ogres.....oh, that's right, he's no longer in business....no badge for you!
Posted by blader4411 on 2013-01-09 23:56:14
Now now Calcium, Jim didn't fix things for grumpy old men :D

Good point Blader :)

The team you have isn't CRP legal. I even allowing a team with more than 6 ogres is generous and probably incorrect.
Posted by PurpleChest on 2013-01-10 00:06:23
I will add only that Dragons also refused the offer of entering another team instead.

Dragons: It is always sad if a player leaves the site, and if that is a response to my actions, then i am sorry my ruling caused you to feel this way.

It is my job to defend the spirit of Official Tournaments, i felt, and still feel, this ruling does so.

Quoting the game rules:

"In a league, the Commissioner’s word is LAW. He is allowed to change or modify any of the Blood Bowl rules as he sees fit, including any of the League Rules that follow. In the immortal words of fellow game designer Tuomas Pirinen: If the League Commissioner says that Dwarfs can now fly, your reply must be 'Yes Sir! How high?' If you don’t like the way a commissioner runs his league, you have two choices; put up with it, or leave the league. Arguing with the commissioner is NOT an option. ‘Nuff said, I hope."

I'd say max 8 ogres is a fair compromise. Unless maybe they go into the CPOMB qualifier. ;)

The Commish's word is law. Play or don't play.

Do I get to play a wood elf team with 4 MA9 catchers?
Posted by uuni on 2013-01-10 02:47:25
I would have liked speccing 11 ogres.

I am waiting for other rulings per grandfathering also to be consistent. For example, some old players have 7 levels - currently you can get only 6. Perhaps they should be retired before majors?

Still, comissar rules.

I also think that developing "unbeatable" teams is a dream shared widely. Nerfing weird teams is a slap from reality to those dreams and dismotivates such pursuits.

Situation is similar to lotto: one will not win it themselves but one can dream with the stories of winners. Sort of winning by proxy.

I think this raises in some players the old fear of "if I will make too good of a team, it will be banned or shunned".
Posted by shadow46x2 on 2013-01-10 03:35:29
i think it raises that fear in *YOU*...not "some players of the old"...
Posted by pythrr on 2013-01-10 03:40:01
yes, you are a cry baby
Posted by pythrr on 2013-01-10 03:42:55
uuni - what a load of crap.

he didn't DEVLOP a unbeatable team, he inherited a team from a previous rule set
Posted by keggiemckill on 2013-01-10 03:43:59
If you erase all your teams, won't you lose your Ogre team as well? That's a good compromise. Go width dat.
Posted by Arktoris on 2013-01-10 04:20:30
I miss the old ogres. Playing with or against was always a fun time.

however, it's been over a year now that CRP has come,

even Orpheus had to conform finally

Well, rules are rules, but seriously, it isn't like an Ogre team is going to win. It isn't even likely that he will have 11 Ogres when the tourney is done.

So, what about the team where some legends have 7 skills? Gone now?
Or more specifically, the dwarf team with the Ogre? Or those teams with permanent star players they have won in other tourneys?
Aren't they allowed anymore? That's not really CRP, is it?

All in all, much ado about nothing, as I don't think 11 ogres would have gotten very far.

3 games in2012 with this team. It says it all I guess.

Seeing a grandfathered player who somehow survived the games he played is always funny. Seeing grandfathered players who survived the games they didn't play isn't. :)
Posted by DukeTyrion on 2013-01-10 11:47:53
Personally, I don't think any grandfathered team should play in majors.

Your team does not comply to the current rule set, so why should be allowed in a tournament being played under the current rule set?
Posted by DukeTyrion on 2013-01-10 11:49:34
BTW,

when you deleted all your teams, you missed two.
Posted by DonTomaso on 2013-01-10 12:13:20
So, DukeTyrion, ANY team with an old legend, who has 7 skill-ups then should not be allowed?
Posted by uuni on 2013-01-10 12:29:18
@shadown46x2: I am sorry, you read a comma into wrong place in my sentence. Please read my post again, slower, and refrain from attacking me personally.

@pythhr: Please tell your crap to other people. I welcome your civilized opinions though - you have had some good ideas.

Achieving 11 Ogres was not a trivial task even under LRB 4. If it were, there were such teams a dime in a dozen, but now we see there are only couple of such teams. Getting there requires games which requires work. I, for one, appraise the hard work of grinding that took the team there.

If we wanted tournament to measure only CR, we could have non-progression rosters for those tournaments. Currently, developing a team is a common, normal factor of FFB.
Posted by DukeTyrion on 2013-01-10 12:29:19
Don,

If they brought in a rule saying teams with 7 skill legends were not allowed in Majors, I would be fine with it.

I would also be fine with removing the final skill on such player.

Even if said players had to be retired, it wouldn't bother me, because I am very much against grand-fathering, in any form.
Posted by shadow46x2 on 2013-01-10 23:33:40
@uuni: i didn't read anything wrong about your post...it's a clarification of your statement, and a subtle suggestion that maybe you shouldn't project your opinion across a larger group than yourself...

oh...and just because someone calls you on something, or shows you to be wrong about something, doesn't mean they're attacking you....get over it...
Posted by shadow46x2 on 2013-01-10 23:36:28
oh, and getting 11 ogres under LRB4 wasn't a massive accomplishment...it didn't require "work"...nothing in this game requires "work"...it's a game, it's fun....it's not work if you're enjoying yourself...

all this took was time...apparently, at most, 45 games worth time...

and the reason why you don't see a lot of 11 ogre teams is either because a) they have since been retired by the coach, or b) people just don't enjoy playing ogres...

stop making this out to be more than what it is...
