I used to play Faction over a year ago - mostly with my lovely wood elf team,
Tangleweed. Then I had to take a break because of the birth of my second baby as I could never guarantee an unbroken two hours and it semed unfair to keep playing when I would either have to ignore his crying, or abandon my opponents mid-game.
Now he's a bit older and more independent - and sleeping at lunchtimes! - and so I'm back, this time with my new wood elf team,
Aoraki. Tangleweed had to be retired when they couldn't field a single player :(
Faction has changed a lot during my absence and I'm still trying to come to terms with who's in it and how they play. I used to enjoy trying dangerous and desperate plays with only three or four players on the pitch, just to see if I could get a few more SPPs for my stars, but now there seem to be a lot more serious coaches who are concerned with winning by destroying their opponents first and scoring when there's no one left to stop them... that's fair enough, it's a good tactic and dwarf/khemri have little other option, but I don't really enjoy that sort of game so sorry if I've refused an invitation against your bashy team when I'm one of your selected opponents. It's just I want to give my players a reasonable chance of survival.
I don't mind losing - I'm not really out for medals - but I don't like throwing my players away to injuries even if it means winning.
Recently I've had some great games against some really good coaches. I seem to be on a huge long lucky streak and I've made the most of it.
My plan now is to create a few legends and try and get more of my players onto the
top 10 list for Faction. Constantdrip Brokengutter, who holds the record for top star and most TDs is one of mine old players, so I'm looking to see if I can knock him off the top spot with one of my new players - a LONG way to go for that though.
I still love Faction. I know it can be hard to find opponents and I don't play that many games, but that's okay - I can fit them around my childcare duties - and it means I take them more seriously when I do play. I find Faction games are much more challenging and my opponents generally much better coaches than in Ranked.
In future, I'll write about some of my games in case anybody bothers to read this.
Bye for now.
