This is going to be a brief explanation of how SR is calculated by an example. Geggster is a
Top25 Coach since a long time. Currently he is 25th with 1004 points. Let me show you how this got calculated for him.

TOTAL: 1004
You can watch this by going to the
SR Points page, select 2018-01-29 in the top combobox (it is the default for this week), writing "=geggster" without quotation marks to the Coach filter.
He participated in another 17 minor tournaments in the past year but those points (best of them worth 29) are wasted. Why? Because currently only the best 10 minor results contribute to the SR points total for coaches. This is going to get increased to 12 this year as I explained in my previous blog post. There is a reserved slot for the FC and another for XFL, and another 6 for major tournaments but Geggster did not participate in majors and in XFL. Still, four minor wins with a couple of decent progressions are enough to get to the first page of the rankings.
Note that RRR CCCLXVIII is going to get expired in 2018-02-25 and if Geggster will not replace it with a new good performance then on 2018-02-26 the best of the wasted results (worth 29 points) are going to take its slot and get unwasted. So if Geggster does nothing, his points are going to decrease by 58-29=29 from 2018-02-26.
Why worth the SMSB 59 semi-final only 36 points while the others worth 58? This is because it was a smaller tourney with only 8 teams and thus it fails to the Minor-Level1-Elimination-7..8 Teams category which yields 36, 60, and 100 points for one, two, and three wins (winner wins three times). This type of tournament also yields 18 points for a mere participation and loss in the first round. As this is true for all tournaments, not taking part in the FC is a mistake as it leaves 0 points in the dedicated FC slot while a participation worth at least 5.
To watch how points are allocated and yielded by the different types of tournaments, check
Table 2,
Table 3 and
Table 4 in the SR Rulebook.
Cheers!
