Retiring my all-time highest SPP player
Azura the Wardancer has finally been retired. In all my games of Bloodbowl, both in real life and on FUMBBL I've never had a player achieve so much SPP. Then again, I'd never played with a team quite this long!

I was gutted to see him go, I know it sounds ridiculous when his skill choices were terrible (must have been a game VERY late at night when I chose Catch...) but he built up such a history I really feel like a truly great player has gone.

He had a great last game, racking up two more casualties, and I'd like him to end on a high (and before he steals any more MVPs...).

On the positive side it caused my TR to plummet, from 192 to 168, meaning my Wood Elves will have plenty more opponents to play!

Apologies if retiring 65 SPP players is standard practice for some people out there, but surely you've all had a player who you've really been sad to see go? If not then I pity your pixelled players ;)

Since you'll be getting a ton of dry comments about how un-special he was I'd like to say that it's nice to see someone caring for his pixels :) I can definitely relate to your sense of loss and I hope you don't regret it. I have during the times I've gotten rid of a favorite player, the team has just seemed empty afterwards.

Fluff makes this game fun so thanks for sharing :)

Good read.

I grieve for your loss as well. The best player I've ever had was a Gutter Runner with 53 SPP. He aged on his 4th skill and I didn't fire him right away. His injury caused him to miss the next game and I pulled the trigger afterwards. It was the hardest firing I've ever had - he was my first and only 1 turner (VLL, +MA, Sure Feet and Leap).

I sympathise, the highest SPP player I've ever had was a 63 SPP wood elf thrower. By that stage they become something special to you! Or at least... to me. I realise some people have played thousands of games so they may not care, but for me the player was still special enough to care about.

Rated 6 because I remember the first time I lost a "star" (a 24 SPP blodge/ss Gutter Runner). It was the second real game I played on fumbbl (I had spent the first several games playing with the college friend that introduced me to the site), and I almost quit fumbbl because of it.

Good times.

i actually had a legend. but getting him that far made the team lose. often! so sometimes it's better to get rid of them before they cripple your team (one-trick pony), cause you mainly use one player and not the team. also handicaps, winnings and team development is seriously hindered by those SPP-hogs.

Sometime a player becomes bigger than the team, that's the right time to retire him. However, he probably didn't retire, he just got a better offer from some foreign team. Maybe you'll see him on day on Cabalvision, playing some important game in a faraway place.

Wow I am surprised to see so many positive responses, glad to know "FUMBBL" has a heart :)

To Pirog, about the loss of the player making the team hollow, I think you could be right about some teams, but thanks to the magic of AG4, it seems SPP it pretty well spread around my Wood Elves. The linesman Kukka has a particularly fun biography, while others like Jazzerus and Garcia have developed enough character that I feel there's still life in the Trippy Tree Tuggers.

Initially I thought 'whoop de do' but once I read it I realised we have all been here! I agree with Avien, a good read, and a very good record on the team! good luck in the future.

I too, know the feeling... even though I've only had players in the 50+ SPP range killed, and so far have never had a player reach even 76 on fumbbl. ;)

Nice post.
