First of all, I am somewhat surprised, although not amazed about the fact that my conversation with rudinho that ended up as a blog entry has awaken so much of new blogs. However these blog entries seem to be mistaken in more than one point of the conversation. In this I would like to both correct those and also give my true and honest opinion about the greenskins and especially about them in the faction.
First: I didn't have a team in a gamefinder, but yes I was browsing through the site and I was in the irc, unfortunately however I had a masters thesis video conference going on (which I think was mentioned in the log) and thus I didn't want to start playing the game because I knew I didn't have the time or real possibility to focus on it. Which is why I said no to the game at that point.
Second: I quite clearly stated that I try and want to play scoring matches, of which this particular match would have been, but as previously stated I didn't have the time or possibility to focus on it. It really doesn't matter whether it is killer chaos, dodgy elves, or even the greenskins that I play against in the faction, as long as it is a scoring match. (although of course I would love to have at least once halflings as my scoring opponent, seriously, wouldn't you?)
And now to the part where I give my insightful thoughts and opinions about the greenskins and the coaches that play them.
Firstly (in this matter of course, since there has been quite a lot of things already if we start from the top of the entry) I would like to say that yes, I do feel that coaches who play with orcs like their easy victories. And yes I do believe that they are in a factionlike environment a devastating force even in the hands of a mediocre coach (me, yes I put myself into this cast, not in the good coaches). They are easy team to play with, and they have both the capability to hurt and score and also the durability to sustain their efficiency in a scoring league such as the faction.
This makes them an easy choice. It doesn't make them same sort of easy choice as being able to tick first in a game of tic-tac-toe, but it does make them easy choice as in doing a zerg rush in starcraft (I know this term, and I have never played the game) or to play... well play bloodbowl with orcs. It is counterable, they can be won, but it is very very strong tactic that requires not a lot of skill.
Secondly: This goes way past into the 90's. When I first started to play bloodbowl we used to play it on the old astrogranite field and didn't know of all the fancy skills of todays modern blood bowl. When I was introduced to fumbbl, I was also introduced into a world of powergaming, cherrypicking, foulfest and all the other wonderful albeit horrible side-effects that a community of this size around a game obviously creates. Heck, I didn't even have a single dirty player on any of my teams before I played the game here.
But in my perspective, the increasing amount of orc coaches and orc teams is a part of this whole cycle that goes on in a game and community like this. At some point it's the cherrypicking elves (didn't many of you actually say that it would be nice to see other than elves winning a major at some point, come on, admit it) and at some point it's 11dp team that can be of any race. Right now in fumbbl is in stage where people want to destroy more than win, and in counter they choose resilient teams that can handle it. I admit that I am way too careful of my players, and weep a little every time I lose one, but that is how I play the game. That's how I play any game (you'd hate to see me having a world war in any civilization game... there are a lot of cries and pulling of the hair.) So right now, in faction, and somewhat in the ranked as well, there is this bashisms -movement (I really ain't that good at coming up with -isms) going on, and there is only one team that can really play the ball as well as at least bash a little of their own, and that is orcs (of course any team can become bashy with all mb's and dp's but that's a different story). So the players who coach orcs are in my view waveriders, who go with the easy solution, instead of fighting for another day.
And in my opinion, people who go with the easy solution in a computer game, have small penises, or self-esteem you yourself can choose of those two the one you wish. And no, I don't also think that this is hugely immature of saying so, but instead the penis-metaphore has been used for ages, whether it is for cars, suits or bling. Orc team's are like the porsche of the FUMBBL, they are easy to handle, look really good, and can really make you feel good when you are riding it. But in the end, if you haven't got it... it really doesn't give you any more length than what genetics/god (choose whichever you prefer) already bestowed you with.
That is what I have to say about orcs in faction and in general. If you really do play with orcs just because you like them... well... you really have something wrong in your head, seriously, you do :)
That is all for this entry, and I really really do hope that at least one of you next bloggers that want to analyse my irc-conversations at least bother to read all of it, would be even neater if you read all of this, that would be really neat.
