The quick demise
3 months ago I wrote a blog celebrating reaching CR160. Seems I may have doomed myself with my public elation as it's been a rapid and steady descent down the CR mountain ever since. Now I'm sitting at CR148 and wondering how I got here.

Down the mountain we go

I don't like to blame luck on everything but it has been a tough run of inordinate number of 1s when handling the ball, inflicting few casualties, suffering lots of casualties and basically just not having the bounces go my way. The ultimate low in all of this was a 9-game losing streak.

It's almost enough to make one not care about CR, which should have been the attitude from the outset. Anyone else suffer a remarkable slide like this? If so how long did it take to bounce back?

Also I should state that I don't really pick...I always look for matches that are even and fun, and sometimes challenging, sometimes easy. Perhaps this has something to do with my CR taking such a big hit.

What do you guys think?

Well, not picking will always hit you, because although I have seen high CR coaches deserving of the title, I have seen just as many reach CR 165+ for playing Dwarves and seeking out Elves, or other such games. And I have taken such a slide before, to earn my patented Major Losing Streak award, which is 10 games lost in a row. My advice is, listen to your heart, and shove CR up the system's... well, you know. :-)
Everyone has a run once in a while, but it will end soon, I'm sure.

CR slides are the norm, if you don't pick.
:-)

I know this isn't the right place to ask about this, but I've always wondered, where do I find my CR graph? I've only ever seen it my superimposing it on others'. Where can I find my own?

@KJG - You can just copy the link and paste in your own coach ID if you want yours alone.

I've had similar slides. I actually did the superimpose thing myself, and aside from a much rougher start on FUMBBL, my first 300-ish games looked a lot like yours. There were also massive peaks and valleys coinciding with the particular whims of Nuffle, with a vague upward trend as I've actually gotten better at the game.

I've had peaks up in the 170 range, mostly due to a team hitting a sweet spot in development and winning me a bunch of games in a row. Particularly brutal rebuilding efforts and major prep on the other hand will often hurt my CR. I'll find myself giving up handicaps and/or TS just to get matches for a particular team, either to fix them, or to develop players and stockpile tourney cash.

(for some reason, a team with a strong record, played by a coach with a good CR, and sporting solid players with a mix of stat buffs and DPs, tends to scare people off from fair games)

Leave it to Zombie to find a way to show how he (again) knows better...

;)

I like playing gobbos and Vampires in ranked - that way if you lose it's not much of a hit and if you WIN, then your CR will go up a significant chunk. But yeah, peaks and valley's happen. CR is not always a good measure of a coach's skill though... I know folks who are in the 140's and it's because they're not playing in ranked and have developed their game in league play. Very dangerous to look at the low CR and think it'll be an easy game...

The think what brought you down so fast is that you lost to mostly 150cr coaches. Losing against much lower CR will make your CR drop fast.

The higher you CR the more likely it will fall win or lose.
Mine tends to stay up if I play mainly rosters I feel are competitive for me Humans, Norse, Orcs, and Undead. It tends to fall when I start experimenting with teams I don't play so well with Khemri, Dwarf, Necro, etc... It doesn't matter if I pick or take on all comers for me as much. I always do a little of both depending on my mood that day.

You'll level out at some point.

Don't worry, it's always just statistics, and aim for a loser award ! :D

Last year I went from 165 down to around 148 with a 15 game run including only one win. It's frustrating and you do feel the dice are against you. But all bad runs end and I have had an unbeaten run of 15 games since then and am back around 163.
There is not much you can do about luck, so try not to let it get to you. If you like the game you just play through the bad times and try to remember when the dice were good to you.

@Jeffro

He was asking if this was normal, so i don't see how pointing out an even bigger slide isn't answering his question.
