Annoying behaviour (but whose?)
OK, so I was deep into the second half of a match against some unseemly gobbos.

The first half saw lots of rubbish on both sides, and very few casualties. First half ended 1-1, with all to play for.

The second half started and after 3 turns of bashing, the gobbo numbers had started to drop. I was looking dead on for a TD as no gobbos could reach my carrier, when something odd happened. My opponent (without any remarks or comments in chat - he had been chatty previously) just hit the turn button without moving or standing up his players. OK, he wants to protect his players a little - I've left men on the ground before.

Mindful that a TD would put me 2-1 up with plenty of turns for a comeback, I wanted to ensure the win. I blitzed the only gobbo that could reach the ball carrier and OOF! Killed. Ok, badly hurt would've done, but he did foul my brand new Blitzer to death on Turn 1. That makes us evens.

If he had asked me to just stall out and score on the last turn I might have considered it, but he didn't say a thing. My mind was still focused on winning a tightly fought contest and it didn't occur to me what he was trying to do until later. So I put one of his trolls on the ground and fouled him. Was this mean? Probably. Is this Bloodbowl. Definitely. I didn't want that Str 5 monster running around taking my guys out on the restart - I had already wasted my apo failing to save that T1 death. I then scored my TD. Play to the finish, maximise SPP. Simple.

Of course, my opponent then didn't bother setting up again after the restart, the server then shut down and he has not replied to my PM. I therefore lose the SPP I earned and do not get the benefits I would have earned if my oppo had conceded properly - I guess he didn't want to risk his stars.

Was it obnoxious of my opponent to just drop the game, or was it obnoxious of me, for wanting to play out the game (not that I had even registered that my oppo was effectively conceding the game)?

What do I do now? The fumbbl rules state that I can either abandon the game (and my juicy SPPs) or get my oppo to reschedule and finish the game (which I suspect is not going to happen). Annoying.

This is the first bad experience I have had on BB in my first 40 games.

Just get the game scheduled, if he doesn't reply he will get blocked, then the game will be forfeited to you anyway. Follow the rules and everything will be fine.

Aye! And remember it is NEVER wrong to kick any player while he is down...

If I were playing vs some Woodies and it took me 16 turns to get a sodding Wardancer on the floor I'd foul him T16 on principal.

Since you only have one team I'd walk away as you can't play with your team while waiting for the game. It sounds like if you get the game scheduled you might be up for a lot of excuses on why the game can't unfortunately be played tonight, but tomorrow for sure.

Who knows, though, maybe your opponent feels sorry for doing that. Mind you, I'm not blaming anyone since all we have is your side of this.

Better yet, make a team in Blackbox! Nobody there frets too much about some silly RIP's.

Always get the game scheduled, people who drop games need to be punished imo. Get a new team and be patient to finish the game or get the concession after a week.

You play the game to the best of your abilities, using all the cards at your disposal, and don't whine when your opponent does the same.

I'll be the one to post it I guess:
http://fumbbl.com/help:DisconnectionProblems

The system works. Don't worry about the loss of spp you earned during the game. Even if he doesn't show up to finish, you'll get them through the forced concession from the admins (after a week).

I'd take the chance to make a new team to kick the tires on. Helps to get a better understanding of your opponents' tactics to have played their race yourself. Maybe pick out the race you have the most trouble against, and learn their weaknesses firsthand. (better yet, challenge human teams with them!)

Just make sure you let the admins know ASAP. Normally you wait a day or so before telling them but it sounds like its already gone past the point of reasonable doubt.

Report the n00b.

I can see your opponent was Danish. I feel so ashamed. XD

Just contact a Admin and take it form there. This wont be your first time I promise you that.

Just to add: I've played over 500 games and have had I think 3 that needed to be scheduled by admins for players dropping. Only once did the admins need to resolve a concession. It also happens less once your TR increases and you play more against established coaches.

of course, it could have been a genuine problem on my opponents side...

It's all sorted now though, as the game has been completed.

oh, and he came that (*holds finger and thumb really close together) close to equalising...

you mean you didn't even give him the boot on every chance you had?
lame! :(
Posted by Laendri on 2009-05-27 01:18:24
Last time my opponent dropped he doesnt appearend for 6 days and then suddenly replied my PMs, then, when playing the game ( we were on T11) he said he had to go, so asked me to please pass the truns and win... that is so lame, i also want the SPPs i could get for the kills... so i asked him to concede... and he said "If you dont pass the next turn i may disconnect again for 6 days" if I were admin, this guy would never play in fumbbl again.

You can see the game from the perspective of the goblin team coach. He doesn't want to lose more players. However, he has tools to use in those circumstances; running away, trying to take down one of your players, or, even better, throw a goblin near the ball carrier, hoping for a flying death. And even with one turn left, the gobbo team has a chance at a score.

Stalling is a legit tactic, just as much as throwing players for 1-turn TDs. Shouldn't feel any guilt.

And goblin pixels just beg for a spiked boot anyway!
