FUMBBL Skill Picks
I've been on FUMBBL for a little while, and I'm starting to notice some odd trends.

In any league that runs for a long enough time a certain culture will develop. This culture will help certain teams win, and will help other teams counteract the teams that win. If you look at a league long enough you can tell the races that win by the skills the other coaches pick.

In my table top league we had a number of very good Elf teams, Wood Elves and High Elves to be exact. These coaches relied heavily on a dodging/passing game and so over the seasons the league ran a culture of tackle/pass block/strip ball evolved. Very often these skills came before skills that might help a coach win more simply because the skills counter acted the biggest threats in the league.

As is the case, the increase in strip ball and tackle created an influx of Leap and Sure Hands, and the cycle repeated itself with the balance of power shifting one way, then the other.

On FUMBBL I've had to get used to a new culture. A Claw/MB/PO culture. While it's not 100% the majority of good teams are high AV bashing teams, and the easiest counter to those teams is a combination of Claw and Mighty Blow. However, other coaches have taken a different tack, and their success can be seen in the number of high movement, low AV teams that have found success in league and ranked play.

While this is certainly not news to any of the FUMBBL veterans, I found it intriguing how the culture is so vastly different from the table top leagues I've played in.

It is a very good point, but the culture is different because of the number of games you get to develop your team. On TT slower bashy teams generally take a lot longer to develop and as a result do not reach the same levels of destruction that they do online. Also alot of TT seasons stop and reset at the end of a season. Again leagues on fumbbl are mostly continuous.

I think MB/Claw/PO will get found out, in the same way Claw / RSC or mass DP teams used to eventually. I'll keep saying it until it happens! :)

same goes for dwarfs, dwarfs and orcs are boring and bland and are just really "safe" teams that play slow and are low risk and just plow through whatever the opponent does. Now we get to kill they mens...
