" Viva 'o re" fu il grido con cui i reggimenti napoletani del "felicissimo Regno delle due Sicilia" usavano andare all'assalto. Questo grido risuonerà rauco e disperato nelle terre del Sud anche dopo l'annessione al Regno d'Italia. A gridarlo saranno bande di irregolari, per lo più ex soldati dell'esercito borbonico, che non intendono arrendersi. Sono i romantici disperati dell'ultima barricata, malgrado tutto sia irrimediabilmente perduto. Per essi non ci sarà né onore né gloria, ma soltanto una crudele guerra per bande. " Brigantaggio" lo chiameranno sprezzantemente i Piemontesi. E con il termine "briganti" i legittimisti saranno consegnati alla Storia. Il "vae victis" di Brenno non è soltanto un aneddoto storico, è una costante nella storia dell'umanità. I vinti passeranno alla storia sempre e soltanto attraverso le pagine scritti dai vincitori e dovranno sempre giustificare il perché si siano battuti "per la parte sbagliata". |
