The First 75
Well, I didn't think I'd get this far this fast, but before the end of February I've made it to 75 matches in the Black Box Trophy, the 75th being
a foul affair between the Buena Vista Anti-Social Club and some dark elves. That was one of those games where I knew early on I wouldn't be getting the win - was it the aftermath of a 2-0 loss for the Giants against some undead, when I should have done better? Was it the lingering fumes from the glue that I was using to stick my Beastmen back together? Or was it just my gobbo tendencies sneaking back in?
Never mind. I fouled and fouled and fouled, learning from all my time playing Dark Elves that if you drop your Witch Elf on the floor, you will be made to regret it, but the boots of the Club were laughably weak and the most we could do was to stun somebody. By the end, with the Professor disappointed at failing to hurt anyone this game, and most of the team lying down, it was probably best that the full time whistle blew.
Unless things turn around incredibly tomorrow, February's win-draw-lose has been 2:1:15, which is an 83% loss rate (January was holding steady at 74%), a staTtistically insignifcant difference - that is, we can't be
sure that I'm getting worse. It's been only eight days without a win - the longest drought was 50 days, so there's nothing to complain about there. More curiously, the Underworld Denizens are my winningest team, and that's with them only playing 13 matches so far. Definitely something for the
12 Angry Men to be embarrassed about (12 losses and no wins from 16 games).
It's all downhill from here
So, what's going to happen in the second half? It's always fun to make some predictions and then have them contradicted by reality, so here goes:
The
Giants are going to make a comeback. We've had some terrible results recently but they've been a bit out of practice and losing Black Orcs here and there to death and injury. It can't go on forever, right?
The
12 Very Angry Men have to win a game eventually. Don't they?
My
Nice Young Chaps With Lovely Smiles have been kept safe on a high shelf, away from violent games of Blood Bowl, for more than a month. It's high time the Fab Four and friends got back out there and engaged in some more AG5 elf bullshit, but I think I'll save them for the long hard run to the end. Will we see a second Witch Elf for some extra shenanigans? You better believe it...
The
Buena Vista Anti-Social Club will just keep on doing what they do. I wish I knew what that was, but we have 17 games left to figure it out.
And
Only In It For The Glory. 16 games, 3 dead players and four sacked for having serious injuries. We even had a troll too dumb to regenerate himself. I'm not putting them back into the Box until mid-March, because I've realised I can't keep it together when my
glorious SWL goblin team are playing in the same week. Who would have thought troll-management would be so hard?
So it's the long slippery slope of Orcs, Denizens and Humans for a while, and then the gloves come off and the other two teams are fed into the mincer until the end...
