I blew past 125 games without stopping, a headlong rush into June with more success than I'd expected, until my poor Chaps hit some vampires and came to a halt. I fully expect to finish the Black Box Trophy with the lowest score of any coach, but at least I'll finish. That's something, right? :-)
The
Giants are done; 30 games with 2 wins and 24 losses wasn't so great. Laurie Driver, my +AG lineorc, survived until his first XFL match, when he died, and that might be the end of my greenskinned elf ball ambitions for a while. I do like this team though.
The
Chaps are likely to finish next - I only need three more games to get them done. After 101 days without a win in the Trophy it felt good to pitch clear a team - even if the win I got was due to an unexpected concession (I'd have settled for a draw) any win is better than no win. The team really are a set of glass cannons now - I had a glorious mirror match against Dark Elves, both of us loaded up with Blodgers, Mighty Blow Tackle, and then frenzied Witches for him and leaping blitzers for me. It was slightly ignominous when we lost 2-1 to vamps in the last turn of last night's match, but the process is more important than the results - I'm no longer kicking myself wishing I had better luck. I don't know if they'll ever go more than a match with a full roster though.
The goblins - pulled a draw out of my back pocket last night, and that puts them at 24 games.
Finally I have the AG4 pogo I've always dreamed of, and a combination of block trolls and a block fanatic that can strike fear into those around me. Imagine being able to put three-dice blocks against an ST4 player... it will be good while it lasts.
Finally, my underworld and humans are both at 23 games. Suddenly the humans started being fun again (who knows how long that will last?) and now I have a legitimately nasty underworld team, with all the claw and mighty blow you could wish for. I get the feeling if they last to 30 matches without being badly damaged I'll put them away for a long time though, only bringing them out for special occasions (I have other plans for underworld, with a team that makes me giggle like a schoolboy every time I think about them.
My CR keeps hovering around 140. Every so often I'll stuff things up for a coach with a decent CR, but I've realised chasing CR is itself an illusory goal. If you're mad that your rating has dropped because you lost, it's about as healthy as getting mad that your imaginary set of pixels got broken into tiny bits.
So that leaves me with 23 games to do. Since I moved to the States I've realised it's much harder to get Box games than when I was in Asia. The timezones aren't in your favour, so I'm making a concerted effort to bully, cajole and encourage people to get on the Box and play me. Or stay up until 1 am and get my team punched in by some Europeans...
