100 and one
I was feeling quite despondent when I finished my hundredth BBT game last night. 31 games without a win is quite hard to bear, and at some point you begin to feel it's not building character or teaching you strategy, when the only strategy seems to be 'try avoid playing Underworld against a Khemri team with two dirty players and a sympathetic ref'.
It's not been
all bad. Somehow I fluked my way to two ridiculously uphill wins in the Skaven XFL tournament, against better teams with better coaches but much worse dice. That little winning streak died in the rain while I played in a San Francisco hotel room, but it kept me going for a few days.
Then this evening I took the Giants out for another
game, and went up against Norse. Now, I've played against Norse a few times, and it's always been confusing how some scantily-clad Vikings refuse to fall down and just beat up on me. So I had low expectations for this one. I started badly, but managed to keep my head straight and got to a touchdown in the 8th turn. A proper, will-he-or-won't he? move where I could have crapped out three squares from the line, but I rolled double POWs and waltzed into the end zone. Second half I got him to score reasonably fast and if I'd remembered that I had two rerolls left, I could have got my ball carrier in range to score in the last turn to win. But I didn't, so I didn't. Still, a draw after all that time, when it
could have been a win, and I didn't feel I played dumb much, felt great. Possibly the first game in a long time where I haven't played dreadful in the first half and then woken up in the second - when I haven't burned most of my rerolls in 8 turns it tells you the dice are smiling on me.
So, my predictions didn't work out so well: the
Giants' comeback has only been as far as managing to draw a game. We've lost another Black Orc to injury, but the rest of the team are shaping up well. I just don't seem able to sack
Fru T Bunn, the lasvicious baker of the backline. Will somebody come take him off my hands? Or at least help me decide between Leader and Kick?
I don't think the
12 Angry Men have played another game. That seems to be a prerequisite for winning a game, so maybe it's time to mono-activate for a while. But humans just aren't that fun, are they?
Not enough AG5 bullshit from the
Nice Young Chaps.
The
Buena Vista Anti-Social Club had a nasty
run-in with those Khemri. I'm glad the Professor sought medical help when he died, because he was no bloody good at regenerating. At least they broke the knee of one of their opponents in reply. (Actually, the Professor is a right nasty academic now, if he stays upright long enough to claw you in the face. I still expect great things from him.)
And
Only In It For The Glory. Oh boy. At least the little lads managed to find the cash for a Doom Diver. How long before he gets eaten?
My only request to the good people of Fumbbl's community is that we
all activate nothing but Stunties for a week, and see how that turns out... Come on everyone, what do you have to lose?
