After being close several times I finally got it! :D
I went back to playing elves for all these games.
In total we ended up with 35-7 in Tds, but suffered 17-34 injuries including a nice 98spp blitzer:

All of these games are with the new gamefinder.
I find it pretty good but noticed a few differences.

I usually click all suggested teams and play the 1st one to accept, but allowed myself to avoid multiple tacklepombs for the last 2 games.
Unlike earlier many games ended up being played with lots of handis.
Usually I find they didnt quite compensate for the tv difference.
Oddly (and likely the main reason this worked!) most opponents where quite a lot lower in CR (whatever value you give it).
As I clicked all teams suggested most of the time I have to wonder if the GF gives strange suggestions or if most higher CR coaches pick even more then before?! :p
