After the desperate collapse of Season XV and speculation of Coach Wilson's position, the Unicorns have retained their Head Coach and made significant strategy changes to fend off another dead last finish in Season XVI.
INCOMING SIGNINGS
No less than 5 new players were brought in through trades. The biggest deal was for Draft XVI 1st round pick position with the Doomkeep Manticores. The result was three signings from the former Muckenhof, former Aarnau franchise.
Coming to Ubersreik, are youthful defensive end
Kerrith Whyte Jr., highly dislikable lineman
Kaden Smith, and gruff safety
Nate Davis.
An underused wide receiver for the Broekwater Bruisers was
Janice Borbás, who showed some promise and will replace those players who have left the franchise.
Finally, legendary Aldente Scimitars blitzer
'Rocky' Roshaun Stewart joined late in the trade window and adds some serious solidity to the line of scrimmage and blitzer platoon.
The Unicorns new mascot, Uriel, with Whyte Jr. and Vaughn.
TRADE PICKS
Unicorns abject season resulted in the DLE awarding them a compensation pick; this was the perfect opportunity to upgrade the Ogre center positions and
Gosder Cherilus was brought in, providing an excellent foundation for the team.
First round pick was
Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who fills the role of an agile, ball carrying, half back and provides another scoring threat for the Unicorns.
In the second round, picks were
Jake Hanson, a young Lahmian lineman with key skills for holding up the offensive, and
Tommy Stevens, who is another young Thrower who the coaching team have high hopes for.
Ke'Shawn Vaughn joined after the third round and who offers a toughness and agility that enhances the roster.
OUTGOING DEPARTURES
Some shock departures were necessary to ensure the Unicorns brought their unmanageable wage bill down - including three Hall of Famers.
Club Captain
Ottmar Wirt was traded to Broekwater Bruisers for their Draft XVII 2nd round pick. Superstar tight end Catcher,
Bruno Giza was traded for Los Cabos Marauders' current and future 2nd round picks. Giza, with Wirt, was inducted into the Unicorns' Hall of Fame upon their departure.
B.J. Hill, who was already in the franchise Hall of Fame, continued to struggle with injuries. Along with fellow fixture of the treatment room
Robert Enthurger, he was traded to the Broekwater Bruisers - however, due to a change in management, they followed Coach Arcayn in his move to the Altdorf Thunderbolts.
Marquee signings from last season
Johnathan Hankins and
Dane Morrow departed. Hankins was moved on to Aldente Scimitars for for a future 3rd round pick. Morrow has taken retirement, bringing to a close a DLE career that lasted 125 matches.
Zayden Dagh and
Juan Thornhill were released to accommodate new Blitzer signings.
The club wish all of our former players all the best at their new teams.
