Blitz 'Dem - GDR Edition #1; Season 1 Wrap

'Blitz 'Dem', the preeminent periodical for all things Blood Bowl, having been published by diligent grotz since 1964 IC, brings you the key facts from the opening Gameweek of the inaugural season of the Greenskins Draft Rumble.

= SEASON I ROUND-UP =
Forty-one games played. Eighteen teams. Five titles. A whole heap of battered green bodies! The inaugural season of the Greenskins Draft Rumble has come to an end and winners and losers have been decided. In this wrap, we reflect on the season by announcing our players, teams, and coaches who have made greenskin history.

= STAR PLAYER POINTS =
Only four players managed to earn more than 20spp and Journey Ruth has made himself the most admired player in the GDR:

24 SPP - ★ Journey Ruth ★ (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)
21 SPP - Brakgutz Ironhide (Nordland Skull Smasherz)
20 SPP - Indestructible; Leg Snapper (both Iron Crag Clawz)

= CASUALTIES =
This season has seen few deaths and a moderate number of injuries, which, the Commissioner points out, will have a detrimental effect on attendances. Coaches are encouraged to do better next season:

5 - Brakgutz Ironhide (Nordland Skull Smasherz)
4 - Toe Ripper (Iron Crag Clawz), ★ 'Barmy' Baram Bloodtusk ★ (Zaragoz Goatz)
3 - Five different players

= BLOCKS =
Some heavy hitters who have not found the chinks in the armour in their opponents yet, but there's only, truly, one winner:

80 blocks - Head Stompa (Iron Crag Clawz)
58 blocks - Skurm Rocksmash (Badlands Black Feathers)
53 blocks - Vernon Squiggs (Drakwald 'Ardboyz)

= TOUCHDOWNS =
The glory boys, the frontmen, the ones whose posters adorn countless teenagers bedrooms. Who will be entering the pantheon of Blood Bowl greats?:

8 touchdowns - ★ Journey Ruth ★ (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)
6 touchdowns - Indestructible (Iron Crag Clawz)
4 touchdowns - Orzog Shugdurbam (Nordland Skull Smasherz)

= FOULS =
Far too many nice guys have been hired, meaning the diehard fans are left wanting more from their heroes, especially those pesky goblins:

11 fouls - Farang Swampbreath (Badlands Black Feathers)
8 fouls - Ougdula The Mauler (Zaragoz Goats); Skabzit Mudspitta (Nordland Skull Smasherz)

= RUSHING YARDS =
Four players went past the century of rushing yards - an exceptional achievement - more impressive was Boggit Wartsnout who only played 4 times for the Kraken:

139 yards - Indestructible (Iron Crag Clawz)
124 yards - ★ Journey Ruth ★ (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)
114 yards - Skagzizri (Reikland Steel Claws)
105 yards - ★ Baggit Wartsnout ★ (Sartosa Kraken)

= PASSING =
Only a handful of Throwers made any impact this season, with running the ball the preferred tactic. Yet some chose to buck the trend in a shot for glory:

5 completions - Grunk Gorefang (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics); 3 completions - Zurg Blackkrakka (Estalia Gutrippers)
11 yards - Zurg Blackkrakka (Estalia Gutrippers); 6 yards - Kage Goremaw (Drakwald 'Ardboys); Patea Kojonez (Zaragoz Goatz)

= AWARD WINNERS =
Each Gameweek, there were awards for notable players and coaches. Now we can reveal the overall winners in each category:

= MVP =Where to begin? There can only really be four icons of the season competing for this incredible award.

4. Orzog Shugdurbam (Nordland Skull Smasherz) - In 6 games, Shugdurbam showed his scoring chops - 4 touchdowns and 90 rushing yards - as well as his punching power - 2 casualties from 16 blocks. A vital link in the Skull Smasherz chain.
3. ★ Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka ★ (Couronne Boars) - Perhaps his quality made the Boars a one-man team, but what quality! 52 blocks and 3 casualties on top of 3 touchdowns over 44 yards of turf in only four matches! Imagine if he had completed the season?
2. ★ Journey Ruth ★ (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics) - 8 touchdowns and 124 rushing yards in 7 games put Ruth as the leading scorer this season. He also through 25 blocks but without success.
1. Indestructible (Iron Crag Clawz) - 6 touchdowns and 139 rushing yards in 7 games also came with 17 blocks, 1 foul, and, surprisingly, 2 completions totally 3 yards. A true all-rounder!

= Golden Clipboard =Several coaches struggled to meet the demands of the league and so a few, a shining group of heroes, saw the GDR through and carried home the glory, or the scars.

3. Asteflix (Iron Crag Clawz) - Dropping points in his first match sparked something in Asteflix; his Clawz would win their next six games in a row, before succumbing in a close contest against the Skull Smasherz in overtime. Not only that but this achievement was made all the more impressive by the fact he did not take all of his draft picks.
2. Rijssiej (Nordland Skull Smasherz) - Having lost his Marquee Player in the regular season, the Nordlanders managed to secure the GDR South title and navigate the play-offs, getting to the Champions Cup final and nearly knocking the Fanatics juggernaut off of the tracks. With a more developed roster and a few select additions, they will be a major threat next season.
1. RobinFern (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics) - It's hard to look past the Champions! The Fanatics won every game they played with only the Drakwald 'Ardboyz able to prevent them scoring twice in a game. Journey Ruth, Grunk Gorefang, and Yargob Wartnose are the core to a very strong side who possess no more skills than other sides but RobinFern manages them with efficiency and precision.
