Having reached quite a milestone I thought I might put down a few words.
First of all, much thanks to everyone who makes this a unique place – none mentioned, none forgotten, but you know who you are – site owners, client developers and testers, admins, tournament staff, league commishes and league opponents.
I stumbled in here, some 10½ years ago, mostly for the ability to practice up-coming tabletop setups as the current client matched the html team format used in the TT league. But I still find myself here, not having had a major break in the period gone by.
And in that time have played 1659 R/B and 341 L games.
Quite contrary to the Ranked vs Box discussion, I still play in all 3 major divisions, as I find they all have something special to offer.
League
The
game to mark the big Two-O was fittingly a league game in the mighty WIL Premier Division, battling Prez for first place (a first experience for the coach). The game was a guttering last turn defeat involving a mummy catch, ghoul dodges and catch and a GFI without rerolls, but the journey to there was hugely enjoyable.
League offers a unique chance to following a team in ups and downs, triumphs and misery and to see grudges develop. Having played the same team in 20+ seasons in WIL, 176 games to be exact, more than any of my ranked teams, I can only recommend joining a league.
And special mention to OBBA as well. A fun place to hang around.
Ranked
I love the Majors, with Painstate guiding us thought the epic matchups and mass cheers and stomps flushes down on the teams battling it out.
Scheduled Smacks are mini majors, and I like when there’s a bit at stake, even if it is just a little line on your coach page you’re competing for. Sure, you can pick, but if you don’t have fun, you’ve just wasted 1 hour, so why bother.
BlackBox
Random matching, not knowing what you get – what’s not to like?
I use it to get a quick game, not putting too much into it.
Sure, the occasional clawpomb disintegration can be upsetting, but I’ll take getting mauled by a certain chatty whisky-drinking american any day to a mute legend and/or a 4 min turn player.
As a matter of fact,
my most played team is a box team.
Here’s to another 1000!
