Eagles vs All Blacks
Not sure how well this has been promoted for our North American Fumbblers however on Saturday the USA Eagles meet the New Zealand All Blacks at a sold out Soldier Field. My understanding is that it will be broadcast free to air through one of the networks, so if you've not seen rugby played before, this is an opportunity to do so. Tis often refered to as NFL without the padding.

I'll be cheering for the Eagles to score at least once, as there are some talented players on the USA team. An Eagles try and containing the All Blacks scoring to under 50 points would be a great result.

If any reader is still in any doubt over just how steep a task the Eagles face, he or she might consider the words of the highly respected Argentina back-rower Juan Fernandez Lobbe. Speaking in 2007, Lobbe said: “To win, the All Blacks’ 15 players have to have a diarrhoea and we will have to put snipers around the field shooting at them and then we have to play the best match of our lives.” - The Guardian

gonna be fun.

was very tempted to fly to Chicago to watch this, but work events said no... :(

Keep an eye out for SWB (Sonny bill Williams), a complete beast.

I heard it was sold out 2 weeks ago.

The All Blacks are like a super Chaos team full of clawpombers.
Posted by Purplegoo on 2014-10-31 20:07:06
I fancy, with the team the ABs are putting out, that the USA may keep the gap under 40 points.

Good to see this fixture a sell out. And to see NZ with many time zones to travl before the a England game. :)

Apparently all newborn males in New Zealand are vetted Spartan style, the rejects are shipped off to the Northern Hemisphere to play....

Thanks for the heads up. Gonna set this up to record! I watched the All Blacks a few years ago in the Rugby World Cup. It was fun, more so since France lost.

SBW is a class athlete, but this will be his first game back from playing League. Even with a bunch of big names being rested the rest of the squad is a very capable unit, and there are some young guys that will be chomping at the bit to prove themselves at test match level ahead of the world cup.

And in bloodbowl terms they are more like the love child of stat freak woodies and cpomb chaos.

It's not sold out from the 2nd hand market. I've looked at getting tix & could for round $100 @ cheapest, but none wants to go w/ me! I live 45 mins from Soldier Field. Any Fumbblers interested in grabbing a seat next to me???
Posted by Kalamona on 2014-10-31 22:19:36
sbw is overrated. fekitoa will be a lot better soon.
Posted by mrt1212 on 2014-10-31 22:31:32
ill have to check this out.

I assume the All Blacks with put out their A-side vs the States team. The US has looked much stronger over the past 5 years, but will get stomped. 40 points is the Over Under I would guess. I say the Score will be 42-10.
Posted by pythrr on 2014-10-31 23:16:09
65-3.

Just sayin.
Posted by Purplegoo on 2014-10-31 23:20:31
Yes, I must admit that I find the uber love for SBW mystifying. He is clearly an outstanding athlete that could have excelled in any sport that he chose when a young man. But the way he's placed on a pedistal above some of the other ABs by native New Zealanders (on message boards and the like) seems a bit OTT to me.

Anyway, enjoy the fixtures tomorrow, all. The Japan game might be worth a watch too. A good starter before the meat of the Autumn Internationals proper next week. :)

Fekitoa is arguably better than SBW already. His work rate is through the roof, brutal on defense and a juggernaut on attack. I like him better than Nonu as well. Of course I'm from Highlanders territory so I might be biased.

Goo -- SBW is a freakish athlete, but there are better rugby players, and many who are not the egotistical dick that he comes across as. Personally, I would have left him in the League world, and not lured him back. But hey, not my job.
Posted by Purplegoo on 2014-11-01 08:21:18
I thought 'No dicks' was right up there with 'Clean the shed' in All Black mantra?

The Japan game, apparently, not worth a watch after all. Ow.
Posted by luxyluxo on 2014-11-01 10:18:32
USA USA USA :)

Japan game = OUCH, they need serious improvement ahead of holding the world cup in 2019, or they will not get out of the group stage.

"The Maori fielded an inexperienced side, featuring no fewer than 10 new caps in the match-day squad"

Ouch indeed.

Let's hope the USA put up a better fight.

decent US effort in the first half in patches, but they just can't defend aginst the speed and power out wide ... altho that last minute tackle by the Leicester fullback on Savea was impressive.
Posted by Purplegoo on 2014-11-01 22:10:43
Leicester are always impressive. Apart from this season... :)

I thought it would be a little closer than this. A shame for the Americans but a decent AB performance. Considering this is a narrow pitch, they're not finding space too hard to come across.

We're getting the US feed here. Cripes, tough to listen to. :)

yeah, me too. cringeworthy/amusing by turns.

Posted by pythrr on 2014-11-01 22:44:26
74-6. I wasn't too far off in my prediction (65-3). Go me.
