Me vs. Dwarves 1900 vs. 2390 2-1

Had some amazing dice in those games but I also suffered a tidal wave of blood. Love Nuffle's sense of humor on that one.

yeah, Ive noticed a lot more racial diversity recently as well - and some fresh blood in the box as well with different coaches trying it out, great stuff!
And no piling on nurgle fools, Im hoping they all crawled into a hole and died of shame.

Thank's koadah. That win percentage for humans is stunning. That's PacoSilias, Happygrue and Alfo smashing it in the premiership, the top three producing combined sprint stats of 38/8/2. All three had freakishly good sprints.
Personally I'm finding these agility races and alternative build basher races harder to beat at the moment.
Posted by happygrue on 2015-04-06 14:43:37
They were freakishly good sprints. I managed to get the untouchable badge on a blitzer: https://fumbbl.com/p/player?player_id=9302468, thanks to some tackleless Chaos. But winning a game because the other guy got 10 dice on the ball and you didn't go down illustrates the level of luck involved here. ;)

Sometimes it's better to be lucky at the right time in the right place...

I decided to compare my recent 27 games with Glenn Beck Fights Crime, which were mostly HLP games (with a handful that were lower TV, but my TV was between 1450-1900 and average somewhere on the higher side of that range. Somewhat lower TV than the SoB games, but I ended up with both more Chaos but 15/24 races played against (same as SoB).
Chaos 7
Human 4
Chaos Dwarf 2
Vampire 2
Undead 2
Dwarf 1
Lizardman 1
Underworld 1
Necromantic 1
Nurgle 1
Chaos Pact 1
High Elf 1
Skaven 1
Norse 1
Dark Elf 1
This is *loads* better than the last extended run I did in the box in 2014, where my high TV frogs faced 2 human teams, 1 skaven team and 13 bash teams in their sprint (including 5 Chaos, 2 Nurgle and 2 Necro).
Without naming names, I can tick off a handful of coaches who have either not been playing the box recently or who have switched from playing lots of bash to mixing it up with other things. I wonder how much of our perceived improvement comes from just a handful of individuals?
Posted by Dunenzed on 2015-04-06 22:59:35
Yes, it is a handful of individuals, but they are working at both ends of the spectrum. It's a few less playing the kill all mens style, and a few more playing the ARR! races. Heck, when ARR was formed High Elves appeared 1.9% of the time - that data that koadah supplied has them with double that frequency (in high tv games) and has seen them go from 18th to 10th place in popularity.
A few individuals can make a difference to our environment, so it's important to recognise this and encourage ourselves and others to keep up the good fight.

Just to echo the sentiment, my last HLP sprint, over Feb and March, included games against:
Chaos 4
Nurgle 3
Pact 1
Slann 1
Ogre 1
Khemri 1
Dwarf 1
Human 1
Undead 1
Vamps 1
CDs 1
16 games, 11 races. And the biggest TV gap was 160. B is in fine shape.
Posted by mrt1212 on 2015-04-07 01:29:45
Well said Grue. I think most everyone that's part of ARR and drops into #metabox on IRC really supports the effort to get those less loved races their proper Box due (Some just subscribe to the group so they can win Brawls with dwarves...lol). It really is a small community in Box, all things considered, and 5-6 people who play daily can make a huge difference in what we see and don't see in teams activated.
In the end it's not all about boosting that win % and CR in Box, it's about sinking our tendrils into the hearts of Fumbblers and getting them hooked on the company and metagame.

In the last weeks I wanted to test a bit the frequency of appareance of certain races with 1500TV or more. I connected to fumbbl at various times (morning, afternoon and evening), and saved the occurrence of these teams
This is the results after 145 team registered
Chaos 29
Dwarf 16
Khemri 15
Necromantic 12
Nurgle 10
Orc 8
Wood elf 8
Human 7
Chaos Dwarf 6
All the rest 5 or less
The first 6 (Chaos + Dwarf + Khemri + Necromantic + Nurgle + Orc), that are bashers at various degree, are 62% of the total
If we add anothe three races (Wood elf, Human and CD) we have that in 111 on 145 (76% of the total) we have ONE agile team (Woodies) and one middle type team (humans)
If someone think this is "balanced"... well... good for you
Posted by Dunenzed on 2015-04-07 10:15:12
Leilond, I'll refer you to koadah's stats above for a more robust data collection. Measuring all box games above 1600 shows a very different distribution than your ad hoc method. For example in the complete stats humans are clear number 3 in terms of popularity.
Additionally, you miss the point of my blog (which to be fair draws on evidence as anecdotal as your own stats), which is to recognise an improvement in the environment and provide some positive feedback to my fellow boxer's making a difference in diversity.
But thanks for your input anyway.
Posted by Leilond on 2015-04-07 10:55:33
I was only pointing out that, when I have the opportunity to play, 62% of the time I get a basher
There are probably a bounch of human coaches that play at different hours than me
I'll mantaining the stat (and will continue to do that) also to try to find out at what time I can hope to have a bit more of "randomness" in my opponent choices
And I do not take into consideration the black box tournaments, that obviously show up more "soft teams", usually kept in reserve when they're in a good shape. I don't know if koadah's do it or not
koadah's datas are surely more robust.
But I really don't see any "improvement" after you pass 1500TV. I see that if you apply to the box with a team with that TV, you're probably going to face a basher... and if you consider how usually humans are built in the box, koadah's data enforce it even more
I like the box... I play nearly only it... but I usually get bashed very badly and once in twice I have to retire the team and start back from 1000. It's not an issuew... until that TV you can get some variety and some very fun matches, that it's all we need (fun and variety), at least I think so
Posted by Leilond on 2015-04-07 11:06:54
And even with koadah's data, if you consider only these teams
Chaos, Dwarf, CD, Necromantic, Nurgle, Orc, Khemri and Chaos Pact, you still have 67% of the matches using only 8 of the 23 displayed races. 1/3 of the races occupy 2/3 of the matches played
If you add Humans in the list, you have 9 races on 23 that use 77% of the mathces!!!
Black box is fun, I play nearly only it, but surely it isn't balanced at all

The Box is dead, long live the Box. :))
Posted by mrt1212 on 2015-04-07 18:51:26
Leilond, we can't help it if Uk and European coaches are predisposed towards bash. ;)
Posted by Leilond on 2015-04-08 10:07:06
@mrt1212
You didn't read my last post I think. Even considering the koadah's, 9 races on 23 played 77% of the matches. And this 9 races are all bashers + humans. Without humans we have 8 bashers that played 66% of the matches.
Not very balanced I think
Posted by happygrue on 2015-04-08 14:02:24
No one here is pretending that the box is balanced. We have just played in it at worse times, and are remarking that seems somewhat better than they were at the moment. Stats that track total games don't really reflect what is happening at the moment.
