I can't remember the exact problem, but the way it's implemented big guys dominate; particularly the death roller. I haven't played it, it's quite interesting though for all the college fluff and rosters.
Posted by Garion on 2014-06-19 14:55:59
its not great on TT and even worse on cyanide. Imagine a corridor 1 square wide, now imagine a flesh golem standing there or treeman and you have no leap, or clawpomb. awesome! Secret Weapons dont get sent off, so dwarf deathrollers are rather good.

Its a mess tbh, the whole thing needs a rule re-write. However last I heard they tried addressing a number of the problems and made some tweaks here and there, not sure how it turned out tbh.

I would like to try it on tt but it seems like a ballache to do. 1 wide corridors?! Urgh! Hah wondered how the would handle SW, deathroller is amazing then.

Well, it's cheap enough. Free if you bought the old version.

It's hard to believe that the AI is up to much.

I suppose not making 1 square corridors would help the big guy problem.

1 square wide corridors and lot of clawpombers, aaaah yeaahh, kill all mens!!!
XD

Btw there are teleports in the dungeon, so you should be able to skip such choke points.
Posted by Garion on 2014-06-19 17:04:10
Depends on your situation really and if they teleport anywhere useful.
Posted by SpacemanJames on 2014-06-19 17:06:49
Don't get it, only multi player is supported and no one plays it.
Posted by MattDakka on 2014-06-19 17:15:29
Actually there is an AI:
"
Dungeonbowl Knockout Edition is now available on Steam with a brand new AI!!!

Play Blood Bowl… in a Dungeon! Exploding chests, teleporters, rivers of boiling lava and various other traps all serve to spice-up the matches, making them even more dangerous…!
Choose your favorite college and play against other players in competitives matches or against the computer AI."

Now, you could say that the AI sucks, but you can play single player.

Yeah it is hella cheap. Worth it just to get a feel of DB I guess. Just don't want to give any money to cyanide lol.
Posted by Cavetroll on 2014-06-19 18:14:52
Interesting they finally added an AI. The original version didn't have one, and I could never get a game in their matchmaker.
Posted by Burnalot on 2014-06-19 18:55:59
Where is it on sale?

I remember playing TT Dungeonbowl with a mate once when we were kids but it didn't really work that well. Bloodbowl is better on the open field, the lack of space detracts from rather than adding to the fun. If you really want to go have fun in a dungeon, pick one of the many TT games, roll yourself a barbarian or wizard or whatever you fancy and get stuck in!
Posted by Burnalot on 2014-06-19 20:08:06
thank you
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-06-19 20:14:39
I had 2nd ed DB, can't remember how it played but that was maybe better with quite a lot of space.

Just keep in mind that the players are designed for blood bowl and not changed at all for dungeon bowl. Teams are different, yeah, but the skills and stats and everything were conceived for open field play. That being said I think dungeon bowl is a pretty cool concept
Posted by Garion on 2014-06-19 20:30:27
They should have used the original dungeon bowl teams.

"Following numerous requests from the community, we have integrated an AI into the game so that, whenever they want, players can train against or compete against challenging opponents. You can thus challenge teams from each College of Magic with different levels of difficulty! You can choose to play offline or online against these virtual opponents.

Dungeonbowl Knockout Edition also contain all the DLC released since the first edition. All the Colleges of Magic are thus available, a total of 10 different teams compositions, mixing the most renowned Warhammer races!
Moreover, you also gain access to all existing environment kits for use in the Dungeon Editor. They will allow you to build unique and varied environments so that you can lead your opponents into the meanders of your evil designs!"
The game features a Dungeon Editor, you can make your own custom maps, that's good, you can avoid to make 1-square wide corridors.

Yeah that sounds good, I wonder what the bug list is like.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2014-06-20 01:10:59
I played 2nd ed Dungeon Bowl, it was a novelty. As others have said, there are fundamental issues with the game. Certainly worth trying though.

Did anyone ever try skijunkie's version?
Posted by Burnalot on 2014-06-20 11:38:42
I tried skijunkie's version. It was very buggy sadly.
Posted by SpacemanJames on 2014-06-20 22:32:48
Seems there is AI now, my bad.
Posted by Meltyman on 2014-06-23 11:47:25
Dungeonbowl is fun.

Cyanide version is not that great, but it works well enough.

I stopped playing it because there were no players to play against.

It is _a lot_ more chaotic than Blood Bowl, but the better player usually wins still.

So I played a game of Dungeonbowl this weekend. As far as I can tell, you can't make a team in campaign mode against the AI. You have to use one of their pre-made, skilled teams and play another pre-made skilled team. Skill choices and player selections were sub-optimal, but the game was fun. The randomness of the dungeon and my own poor understanding of the rules probably made the AI seem better than it actually was, but it did seem smarter than the regular Cyanide Blood Bowl AI. I might make a team and give the online community a try. It seems much more fun and less serious than Blood Bowl.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-06-26 20:04:11
Yeah I bought it cos it was so cheap. Couldn't really be bothered using the premade teams but will try to play online i think.
