So it was me that Jimmy timed out. No dramas - it was end of the turn and I was just about to hit end turn anyway. I shouldn't have taken that long on a non-critical turn (or even a critical turn?) but then again, I did have some distraction (which, to be fair to Jimmy, I didn't share with him). There was no warning.

It didn't massively bother me then but I did mention it at the end of the game. Given the timing out happened at 4.01 and it was a non-critical turn, I assumed Jimmy always does that (and he confirmed this) so it wasn't tactical or elective.

I don't like the rule myself and don't use it (and yes, I have played Dominik recently and yes he went over four minutes most turns). I don't like it because you don't know what might be going on with your oppo. There are those that say, "well you should pipe up and explain that the cat has just been sick, a child has started crying, the doorbell has just gone". And perhaps they should, but I don't always because it's adding to the time I've kept my oppo waiting and I'll be finished in four anyway. But when a bit of distraction has coincided with a mega-complex turn, I hope that I would get a chance to finish my turn. Evidently sometimes I don't get that opportunity.
