The OBBA League Cup reached a climactic finish recently to see
Fulham Titans continue their steam rolling performance and secure their second title this season after proving victorious over the
Mooncalfville 86ers.
In reality the game was a David v Goliath affair... figurative speaking of course, what with Fulham being the Dwarves and all... One source said:
“I don’t know which game was more one sided, Honduras v Spain or
that!”
Of course, I have no idea who Spain or Honduras are... but given that Mooncalf’s OBBA inauguration began in the Cup then it’s clear to see this team has a bright future ahead... well, that or every other team in the OBBA League Cup were *that* bad!
Following DukeT’s victory he had this to say:
“Remember to make me your Coach of the Season!”
Well, let’s just hope the ballot papers have DukeT printed on them rather than Duke else, the one and only
The Duke will have a peculiar COTS award to add to his ever growing collection... though that said, many believe that The Duke picks the team!
Moving on; now we can focus on what many, and many more don’t, believe is the Trophy to win this season, namely the
OBBA Cup.
After a tough qualifier phase and the first round we’re down to the quarter finals and have surprisingly lost several of the teams we’d expect to see... gone are
Arden Villa,
Sartosa Pirates BBC and Premiership Champions
Bristol Reavers.
Why did I not mention
B'ORCalona amongst that distinguished list of Round One losers you ask? Well, this is the second consecutive time that they have suffered a round one exit – it seems that everyone, players and fans alike, expect them to choke in the big tournaments... kinda reminds me of another team...
So, that leaves the quarter finalists:
Real Sociedead – my favourites!
West Bromwich Foulbion – currently wealthier than Greece
Wolverhampton Wonderdead – still unretired!
Bath City Bladuds – WHHHOOOO!?
Mummywell FC - *shudder*
Druchiioord - *yackspit*elves!
Essetesford Town – hope they have a team come next season!
Aberdoom – down but not out
Let’s take a look at the games ahead.
Real Sociedead v
West Bromwich Foulbion
As current OBBA Cup title holders Real will be looking to make history by defending the title this season. Their aspirations suffered a slight dent in their last game however when their star Ghoul,
Borja Manzanares, tripped and severed his head whilst running a little too fast... a surprisingly common injury that will see more dead Ghouls in the year to come as the GGFIW (Ghoul Go For It Ward) sees its budget cut by 25%. This leaves Real short on speed and ball carriers.
Despite this Real still have a strong squad ahead of the match and have traditionally performed well on the few occasions that they have played Human teams, 3 for 3. Recently potioned
Claudio Andres Bravo Munoz will lead his team out in a game, he had this to say:
“Those Hummies will need all that money for their pension fund when I get through retiring them!”
Which is a tidy sum really, still not as much as most public sector workers will receive of course.
In comparison
West Bromwich Foulbion, like their coach, don’t appear much to look at, but a 70% win record tells us otherwise. The squad is well balanced and, unfortunately for Real who would likely like nothing more than a foulfest, are more than capable of out balling most teams. Foulbion have lots of cash to spend in this tournament and they may put that to good use in this game, it could be swung by coffers rather than coffins!
Verdict: 1 – 0 to Foulbion as they outpace Real to the win.
Wolverhampton Wonderdead v
Bath City Bladuds
As one of the favourites for demotion this season the Wolves managed to avoid relegation and if any of the existing Premiership teams need a chilled out Cup run then it’s these guys – and so far so good. They received a bye in the first round and managed to draw arguably the weakest team still in the competition... argued perhaps only by themselves!
The team is in a sorry state and remains to be carried by two key players,
Stephen Ward and
Darren Ward – collectively known (at least now I have just realised) as the Ward brothers!
The removal of these two players will likely be key to a Bath City strategy who’s heavily bench-laden team seems to be built for attrition rather than flair. With no particular star talent to call upon it remains to be seen if they will be hiring in someone to oppose the likes of the Ward brothers or whether they’ll take their chances with the rookies they do have.
Verdict: A close game with the Wolves stealing a victory 2 – 1 in OT
Mummywell FC v
Druchiioord
A collective sigh of relief could be heard across the Old World from the other team’s fans when this draw was made. Perhaps the two teams that all other teams didn’t want to meet, for totally different reasons, got drawn together.
Let’s not mince words here, Druchiioord will win this match up – you;re likely to get better odds on the Kalimar client not reaching version 0.5.76 by the end of the week.
Druchiioord promise to be the next Oval Balls, albeit with a more brutal twist; a combination that many will fear and few will be able to handle. In fact the only problem they will have is frustrating Mummywell to the point that they give up on the ball and concentrate on the hurt –and that has to be what the rest of the competitors hope for as they rank as the clear favourites in this competition.
Not that I am in any way, shape or form implying that that is what they should do.
*These are the elves you are looking for*
Mummywell won’t reside to this inevitable defeat however; a Khemri team with only 21 losses in 84 games is used to and enjoys winning almost as much as crushing bones beneath their feet – they will however be missing a key weapon from their arsenal,
Ian St "Skelington" John, who is one of the two tackle experts on the team.
Verdict: 3 – 0 to Druchiioord
CAS: 6 – 2 to Mummywell
Essetesford Town v
Aberdoom
From a divisional point of view these two ships will be passing in the night as Essetford rise to the heights of the Premiership and Aberdoom sink to the depths of the Championship, but not before their chance encounter in the cup.
After beating tough opposition in the first round Aberdoom have been rewarded with perhaps their dream draw, a fact that is likely the polar opposite to how the femme-fatales of Essetesford must be feeling.
To say that Essetford are aber-doomed though would be a bad pun and an unfair comment as they pulled out an unfathomable win over
B'ORCed in round one (a fact we aim to mention at least twice in every report next season) and are no strangers to playing Dorf teams with a 4 win 5 loss record to date... in fact it wasn’t all that long ago that these very two teams
met.
Both teams are in bad shape at the moment and key players failing late fitness could really swing the game either way. This will likely be a tough affair and be one of the closest games this round.
Verdict: Why not see for yourself as these two teams are set to play
Wednesday Night at 22:00BBTime!
Enjoy all the Cup action folks – we will!
