If you want Simyin advice, look up some of easilyamused's games... he won a division in OBBA with them.
I've played against them twice, as orcs. Both games were low TV, and my orcs got absolutely murderised in both. Now I can't play orcs, and those particular orcs get a bit murderised by most opponents, but it was still a bit of a surprise!

Have a look at the A.P.E. league:

Every coach has one Simyin and one official BB team each, which means we've play tested a lot of combinations. People were skeptical about the apes at first but they are doing very well this season. Lack of block is tough (hence the need for 3-4 rr) but you get alot of blocks with the grab and ST4 and it can be quite easy to score in 2-3 turns with all the grab and wrestle opening paths up for the extra arms guys to hand-off to each other.
They are definitely a fun and unique team!

I've had quite a bit of fun with mine too. I found them very frustrating to start out (expensive, no basic skills), but once you get a few skills on them they start to seem less like a struggle every turn and more like a usable team, though they will always be a bit of a challenge I guess.
Grab is quite a fun skill if you have a lot of it!

Flipping through the various Simyin teams in APE is quite interesting, every single coach has a different approach to their build. Mine was to take Stand Firm and Dodge as first 2 (regular) skills to maximize Grab. Jump Up would be an entertaining 3rd choice but I may get some sense and take Guard instead. Dodge and Frenzy on the Chimps, who are the stars of the team with the MA7. I went KOR and SH on the Orangutan for reliability, but he still desperately needs Pass (or +AG). Silverback is the only WA without Frenzy, which makes him a bit easier to use than Minos/Yhetees/ROgres. Still, the Guard/MB builds are most effective (because CRP), but playing them as Orcs misses the point imo. Anyway they're quite a bit more fun (and effective) than I expected.

Like happygrue and easilyamused I also decided to try simyins out in OBBA (different divisions) and I've enjoyed them quite a lot. I've found them to be a very difficult team to get started but they continually improve with more skills. This is a team I don't think will ever get 'bloated' because there is always another skill each player can use. The biggest challenge I've had with them is the low move combined with the low armor. But I do like the odd combination of ST and AG skills on the gorilla. Also the grab, wrestle and extra arms does help on defense when they manage to stay on the pitch.

I love the team. They are very different from other teams, and from what I've seen their power level is just right: something in the middle of T1, maybe a bit lower.
I also like that touch of awkwardness in the design that opens up a lot of decisions: who's the ballcarrier? do I need a designated one, in fact? how do I develop the gorillas? are the orangutan/silverback worth it? Pretty refreshing, if you ask me.

I simply love the Simyins, for me the orangs are the ballcarriers, the chimpanze are my blitzers and scorers. My silverback is so strong he's my main blocker and really important for my game. Gorillas are really hard to skill in my opinion, i will try to develop mine going the dodge/sidestep or guard/mighty blow path.
To me the main weekness of the Simyins is the poor armour of av7 or av8 and the missing general access for the Gorillas so I try to have as few Bonobos as possible (I'm the crazy guy that started with all positionals).
Sometimes they do surprisingly good against strong opponents (Str4 helps a lot), sometimes they are struggeling against agile teams with lots of dodge.

I went with the "Gorillas are Black Orcs and Chimps are Gutters" approach, giving my gorillas MB and my chimps +MA when I roll it (which seems to be often). The squishyness is a big throwback if your opponent is on a roll injury-wise, though, and a lack of block on the Gorillas can hurt.
I haven't gone with an Orangutan; I prefer to run the ball rather than play a passing game. I haven't thought about using chimps as blitzers; for me Wrestle is defensive to get an annoying guy down rather than offensive and sacking the ballcarrier.

Simyin: Simm-eee-an. That is how a Canadian like myself would pronounce the word. :)
