Netbook
A lot of the time just now i'm stuck on a netbook to play Fumbbl. This is decidedly less fun because I can't chat in the chat window. :(

Apologies to my opponents for being the quiet man in the game.

Try this:

1. Set the resolution higher, to 1024 and something. If you can't do it straight away from the display's Properties, read Flix's blog. He had some sort of fix for it.
2. Hide the taskbar.

I've gotten the chat window to show up this way on my netbook.

Actually, you can always chat with the new client. With TAB you can activate the chat line, if you can see it or not. Admittedly, you'll have to type blindly.

Most netbooks are have a resolution of 1024 * 600.
I think you need a vertical resolution of 768 (which corresponds to 1024*768 in 4:3 aspect ratio).
With some netbooks, if you set your OS to a resolution larger than the monitor can handle, it will move your view of the virtual screen when your cursor approaches the borders of your physical screen.

Hiding the taskbar helps to an extent and i can still type but can't see responses or even what i've typed for about 4-6 lines. I've been trying to make sure i keep irc open so i can chat using that. It's helpful as well but not everyone uses irc. I'll see if any of the suggestions help later. :)

mostly this blogs just to let folks know that i'm not ignoring them, just partially deaf to the chat. :)

There are definitely ways to get your resolution higher than 1024x600.

Wit the latest graphic drivers i could go up to 1024x768 which is not optimal, but with a hidden taskbar the client fits exactly.

It`s a bit exhausting for the eyes cause 4:3 is slightly distorted on a netbook screen, but it works just fine.

I`d not recommend playing more than 2 games in a row, especially with a sensitive touchpad ;). Can get annoying...

Most netbooks have an external monitor output, either VGA or HDMI (or mini-HDMI). If you have a monitor spare, plug it into that.

Read The_Sage's post below. This is the fix. Do it.

Just as others have said you should be able to go higher than native resolution. I was forced to an ancient laptop with a tiny screen when my main one was getting reapirs a few days ago. Downloading the latest graphics drivers allowed me to select a higher resolution than the screen size. I was then able to scroll down to chat and see RRs/Apo. The pitch was within the bounds of the native resolution, thankfully, so I didn't have to scroll to see the full put so it didn't impact things too much.

Worth looking into at least, the game is more fun with a bit of banter!
