Are you sure this is not one big misunderstanding ? He *might* have meant he didn't have the time to play a blood bowl match.

It's what you said. But he also said that he utterly hates the idea of playing me and he makes sure that I know aswell and why so.
Do you think his reply was expedient?
Why did this coach participate in a tournament where the risk exists to get confronted with a coach like me?

there's always people pulling stunts around here... sometimes being a d**k pays, sometimes not. but I've noticed that pays off quite a lot in terms of "game winning". a lot less in terms of human realtions but, hey, who am I to judge someone else's behaviour and ideas.

Dominik, I am going to give you a chance to edit the swearing out of this blog before I delete it.

You're being too sensitive. He should have suggested an alternate time -- but let's face it, the reason most of us spend our discretionary hours playing a fantasy-themed sports simulation board game on the internet is that our social skills aren't the greatest!

Also, if you have a problem scheduling a game then you are better off taking it to your tournament admin, not whining about it in a blog.
Especially when it is plainly obvious who you are talking about.

I've a problem with the attitude of this certain coach. His identiy is not obvious, I wrote "I had to play a game against an unknown coach". There are lot of them.

The response you linked doesn't seem like it was necessarily intended to be rude. Besides, why did you both wait until Saturday night to contact each other? Doesn't give you the best chance of scheduling the game ..
Posted by easilyamused on 2016-02-20 22:34:55
No, it really is obvious who you were talking about as only 1 coach was online recently who is a tournament opponent.
Like I said a poor attempt at a name and shame blog is not the way to deal with this. You are not a child, please do not act like one.
Add your tournament admin to the PM so they can see where and when you have attempted to play the game.

Have you ever played or seen a game which took four hours?
If you get offered a game which has to be played and you are not free at the moment, you will either thankfully deny the offer or make a proposal.

Dom, just pm'ing someone and asking them, as you did, "let's play in 1hr after my game" isn't making a particularly reasonable offer either (it's actually almost a demand given the timeframe). You ask if you've failed any etiquette - you've made a very short, blunt and extremely one-sided question (you fail to take your opponent's time into account and only factor your own).
As you say, nobody initiated contact. Social protocol would probably have been to simply ask when a suitable time was and state that you were available to schedule/start from as around an hour later if the opposing coach wished to get things started soon, and reiterate that you were aware the game had to be played by Wednesday.

Sounds like a lovely chap, if I were ever lucky enough to meet him I'd buy him a pint!
Posted by awambawamb on 2016-02-23 19:26:54
yep, perhaps a "hey there, looks like we've got a match to play. when are you usually online?" could be perceived as more friendly. for extra points, you could also tell them when you usually check fumbbl or you are online and available to play - sometimes the two things are not connected.
Posted by shadow46x2 on 2016-02-25 01:24:31
maybe if you'd stop playing this idiot game of "hey let's wait until people are online and then expect them to drop everything and play me"?
how about actually contacting your opponent when you are scheduling and giving them a range of times that you are available?
god forbid you give people some flexibility instead of expecting them to cater to your online habits?

Yeah, I've experienced similar issues with people on BB2. "I'm too busy to schedule the match we're supposed to play this week". Some people get salty too easily. Still, I can't fault Jimmy for not wanting to take a day or three to play vs you.
