BeerBeer Open tournament report. Warning Pic heavy!
A little over a week ago I attended the first NAF sanctioned tournament here in Finland (or atleast the first in many many years.) The tournament was also sort of a qualifier for the finnish Eurobowl team. I wanted to be part of the team so I had to play my best. I attended the tournament with Necromantics. Picture of my team (taken with a crappy phone so doesn't do justice to my minis at all.)

The tournament was held in Helsinki at a pub called the Thirsty Scholar.

I went there well in time and found the organizers and a couple of the players standing outside the pub. Seems that the owner hasn't arrived yet. After some time our international guests from Sweden arrive and we have some small talk with them. Time passes and the owner is nowhere to be seen. People get nervous. It's already 10.15 AM and the organizers decide that we play the first round outside so that we can keep in schedule. The first pairings are made and some of the boards laid down on the ground. Then luckily the owner of the pub arrives and we can go indoors.

My first game is against Beerbeer's Lizardmen. He is the big loud finn everybody knows from Eurobowls and suchs. First time I play against him and I'm very excited. I roll +1 fame but per the tournament rules Beerbeer also gets fame +1 because he has beer on the table at the start of the match. I start on offence with two KO sauruses in the early rounds. I move my cage steadily forwards. On T12 a skink blitzes my ghoul to the spectators with a lucky -2d. But for my luck the ball lands in the hands of a nearby wolf. A couple more rounds of blocking and then my wolf scores.

T10

The second half starts with a few KO's and cas. On T6 I manage to crowdpush the skink with the ball, but it's not enough to stop the lizards from scoring on T7. The game ends 1-1, CAS are 2-2.

Second game is against Kalrat's ogres. I start on defence. The offence is fierce. I blitz the ballcarrier down two times and manage to prevent the ogres from scoring. My offence is easy and I score on H2T7. The game ends 1-0 with 1-4 CAS. Sadly we run out of time and had some turns left to play so the was still a chance for the ogres to tie.

Third game was against our team captain mcwitt. He played Nurgle because he was one of the organizers and wasn't going to participate unless there is uneven amount of players, hence the team choice.

H2T7

First half we see some KO's and CAS. Mcwitt puts up a nice defence but I manage to run my ghoul past his line. I score in T15. In the second half mcwitt leaves his ballcarrier in a bad position (or I blitz his cage corne, can't remember how) and I get to blitz it with a POW result. I steal the ball and run for a second touchdown. The game ends 2-0 with 2-0 CAS.

My fourth and final game is against Vesku's underworld. Vesku has played an amazing tournamet so far with two victories and a draw. So we had the same points at this stage. In table 1 there were the top players with three victories both. I figured that if I win and they play a draw I will win this tournament! Sadly J-Ho (no. 1 NAF ranked Finn) won the game 2-0.

The game starts with me going in to offence. Kick-off is pitch invasion. I had rolled +1 fame and Vesku had some beer (+1 fame) so we thought that we both get +1 for the pitch invasion dice rolls. Not sure if we played by the rules but it was a lot of fun! I had 6 guys stunned and Vesku had 5!

The cage advances.

I get a couple crowd pushes to the gobbos. Vesku doesn't succeed in holding off my offence and I score yet another T15 touchdown. Defence starts with a perfect defence!

Vesku manages to move his gobbos around my defence somehow. I make a blitz with my wolf on T8 with GFI (RR) and I roll double skulls. Crap, the first action of the turn. Why didn't I move my players beforehand?? Gosh. Vesku scores leaving me with 3 turns to score. Luckily because of my coaching skills (:P) I manage to score in the last turn. This was definitely the most fun game I had thanks to Vesku as he was a brilliant sportsman. The game ends 2-1 with 3-1 CAS.

I got a score of 3/1/0 in the tournament and won the second place. I got an invitation to the finnish team for the Eurobowl 2016, yay!

The organizing of the tournament was great and I liked the venue also. There could have been better lighting but what do you expect from playing in a pub? The atmosphere of the tournament was brilliant and the coaches were lots of fun. The tournament will be held again next year! So I encourage all of you Fumbblers to come to BeerBeer Open 2017!

My trophy. Second place=silver. Very clever thinking.

The final results of the tournament.

tl;dr won second place with Necromantic. Going to Eurobowl.

(How do I get those pictures to show from photobucket? It always links to the page and not directly to the photo thus showing it here right away. Is it a photobucket thing? EDIT: The links seem to work fine on another forum so it's a Fumbbl thing?)

Nice write up about your games. If only I had the time...

I'm playing in the Danish Open next weekend, and there I will try and make the danish team. I will probably go to EuroBowl/EuroOpen regardless! The forecast says 42 coaches. Gonna be huge!

Those final standings provide the proof that flings are better than Woodies.

And from a couple of those team names, also proof that Tom of Finland's spirit lives on.
