Modified scheduler?
Summer?
Posted by DukeTyrion on 2014-08-16 00:22:32
Well, I stopped playing my Elves because of the scheduler change.
Used to be the Elves would have a couple of bad games, drop to 1200tv and get a couple of young teams to recover against. Now, they get hit down to 1200tv and get matched against a 1700tv team that destroys what is left of them.
I don't mind my Elves taking damage, same as when I used to play my rats. Win with pain was always the way I looked at it, but it's the lack of recovery that stopped me playing them.
My Nurgle recover much faster though, so I will keep playing them.
Of course, you can still play Ranked if you don't like any of the box options.

@DukeTyrion
I noticed that recovering old teams is now a pain in the box.
But I also don't mind being injured, the problem is that I find those games really tactically boring.

Also, no idea why you retired the Dwarves.
Sure, you lost a good runner, but the core of a good team was still there.

Claw owns, claw the Dwarfs!

@Duketyrion
Probably because I don't have the time nor will to rebuild them again in the box.
I thought I had a tough team... but they just become a toy in the hands of a clawpomb team.

Crp.......

Have agree with Duke. It is really hard to rebuild teams. My last game with Pro Elves was a 4-0 win, but lost several players. Not much fun anymore playing agility teams in the box.

Just have fun out of the box, in the Box.

Tournaments and Leagues are still fun after 2k+ games.

According to Galak Fend should counter Clawpomb, rofl!
CRP would need a good Ageing rule (for example using number of games played, not level ups), a Clawpomb nerf, buffed fouling and IGMEOY.

You missed the memo from management..

I'm back on the box horse with woodelves, and got mocked by opposing coaches for being a dirty elfballer. Twas a real rib tickler, but kind of woke me up to a potential undercurrent train of thought where dodging away, and avoiding being hit is seen as rookie, baby blood bowling. It's not fair or fun if you can't hit your opponent's men right?! Especially when that's all your team's geared up to do...
It's not that people are getting fed up, and joining the crowd, it's just manlier, prim and proper BB to play bash..? Just a thought.
Bah... pixel hugging is the answer. The only way there'll ever be a movement away from CPMB, and the like, is if people learn how to be bashed. BB is not necessary about team building as much as it is about winning. An odd thing to say, but the result of the disease that goes along with eternally available games where you can build your characters like an RPG. Just without the nifty start over at your last save spot when you get smushed. Why in my day, BB was a game you played once a week down at ol' Paragon Comics, and after 3 15 game seasons, teams had to be retired. The thought of teams reaching hundreds of games was, well not a thought. Though I suppose if we did, it would have slowy evolved into the kill all menz fest many coaches grumble about on here.
Certain coaches need to be taught how to appreciate BB in ways other than kill or be killed, or that it's no fun, or your game/team is ruined when key players die, etc... Laugh it off, stay focused and just win Baby! My favorite complaint/uber whine is when slightly riskier plays pay off and deemed as lucker nonsense. It's all linked I swears it.
Until that day comes, T16 fouls should become mandatory :)

agree with the Duke here.
I can see why the Box scheduler was changed, but there are lots of unforeseen consequences.

@mattdakka
"CRP would need a good Ageing rule (for example using number of games played, not level ups)"
--- why do you hate zombies so, sir?

So in the end, Smallman really did kill Box I guess. Damned if you do and damned if you don't, eh?

"I can see why the Box scheduler was changed, but there are lots of unforeseen consequences."
LOL what were they?
Posted by anisdrin on 2014-08-16 08:01:16
Why are so many coaches that play cool teams leaving?
It's not because of their pixels being killed, they are hardened veterans. In old LRB4 people died a lot because of fouls and stars were ruined by aging. But games were not boring.
Clawpomb kills players but it also makes the games absolute boring. No tactical challenge.
My hypothesis is that those coaches leave because they find it boring.

Thoughts!

This is really sad :(
Two days ago jimjo, now another FUMBBL veteran thinking to quit the Box (please DO NOT retire more teams).
I guess many more have already done so 'silently' and others, as DukeTyrion, have 'adapted' to the Box - quit playing everything else but CPOMB.
What Prov said is true, can still have fun 'out of the box' in the Box. I certainly do with my HLP and ARR sprints and all my teams still having less than 30 games but that can't be the solution. Most coaches love mid/high TV Blood Bowl and you can't really get that in the Box unless you play bash.
Solutions?
Well, I'm not reinventing the wheel, what people have suggested at various topics/blogs: lead by example, join the crusades (HLP, ARR), bring back the old scheduler so that teams can rebuild, ban all cheesy min/max rookie team hunters (yeah, I wouldn't mind a FUMBBL admin dictatorship on the matter) and so forth...
...or what Jimmy says, fight fire with fire, play CPOMB too and watch Box become a CPOMB 'only' division.
Got the Black Box Blues...
Posted by OenarLod on 2014-08-16 09:41:28
As a Box addicted, I find the new Box is not that bad in the end.
I started a couple rooki teams recently, and I'm getting nice diversity without fear to be predated by min-maxer pact or amazon.
The high TV one is unforgiving as always, and in fact I almost stopped with my VTS at Premiership levels, hanging at around 1500 TV to get enough diversity to make it fun.
Sure, from time to time, like an animal that usually hide in deep holes to avoid predators but sometimes can be caught in the open wilderness, I get this 400+TV difference match against an heavy basher.
At start, I complained a lot about it, but now I'm getting used to it, stock up on apo and babes and fight to live another day.
If we can just get a "transfer to Ranked" button for X*100+ games teams, I would get the best of both worlds. Move VTS (and I wonder if the Wild Dragons would do the same) to Ranked, to keep playing my favourite team, and keep playing with new teams in the Box, a really fun experience.
In the meanwhile, back hiding in my deep hole... :)

Box has improved when starting a new team. You get diversity and fair match ups, at least for the first 16 games or so.
Then, it gets quite nasty.
However, i found out that waiting for a draw where 5 or more coaches activate (normally between 20.00-22.00 BB time) and activating multiple teams myself, it is a good way to increase the chances to get a fair game for my 40+ games box teams (as OenarLod said: Hiding in a deep hole).
Besides this, i strongly feel that this comunnity has a big chance, with all the resources that this site put in our hands, to experiment with the game.
And this experimentation is happening in [L]eague division.
And some proposals out there in [L]eague division are quite intriguing and refreshing which revamps my love for the game when feeling a bit burnout of CRP/gamefinder trends in Box/Ranked.
So, look around league division now and again and search for some bold experimental proposal and give it a go. It is really refreshing, at least for me.
Anisdrin,
Would you like to try something different where positiong is crucial rather than just bashing?

Well Dwarves have won two Box Majors within the last year or so, all they need is a bit of luck, which in this case you didn't have. Yes CPOMB is annoying and when it works, it makes the game pretty one-dimensional. But you were also playing vs. a good coach who didn't leave much to chance. And CPOMB doesn't always work either. I wouldn't base a decision on that single game.
Posted by happygrue on 2014-08-16 15:46:58
I did *almost* throw my 2000 TV frogs (kinda beat up with niggles, but some chance to win a qual) in, but I was debating just entering flings instead because I'm really busy right now and I was not sure I had time to schedule -and flings are good for some lulz and a quick exit, at least. In the end, I was thinking right past the deadline and didn't enter anything. :(
I haven't stopped playing, but I usually play much less in the summer. I'm optimistic that other folks are the same way and we'll pick back up once Fall sets in.

You need to enter 1000tv gobboes. Check out the Provocateur's 1st round game, will restore your faith in FUMBBL with some big belly laughs too :)
Posted by happygrue on 2014-08-16 22:57:08
Yes, that was hilarious to see. :D I've done similar with rookie ogres and it was fun that endures long after the match is over. ;)
Posted by happygrue on 2014-08-16 22:59:18
But all that fun aside, it doesn't solve the larger issue that it is hard to play teams at higher TV in the box these days, because you get bashed down to 1400 with MNG stars and you still get matched against 1900 TV killers. The scheduler change was 1/2 of what could be a good fix, but part two (some clawpomb nerf) is still very much needed.
Posted by Verminardo on 2014-08-18 12:23:52
Well the problem is really the low number of Box games / activations, which leads to match-ups as you have described. CPOMB nerf or no nerf, 1400 TV Elfs will have a very hard time vs. 1900 TV bashers, which is as it should be.
Posted by happygrue on 2014-08-18 21:23:49
I don't think the issue is that you get those matchups... I think the issue is you get overwhelmingly overdog bashers in those matchups. People just aren't playing other things much at higher TV. And if you try to play something interesting or different you spend half the time back at 1500 anyway. ;)
