FFB Client Development Update VII
Graphics: I'll use this last development update before the start of public testing to show off WhatBall's wonderful work. He has created a truly nice skin and beautiful resource and weather icons to match (the cheering fans being my favorite). Pitches were created by HanZzz (available from the Fumbbl download section), who gave permission to use them for Fantasy Football. Thank you!

In play (click to enlarge):
[url="http://www.balancedbytes.com/ffb/Screenshot_100414_New_Graphics_small.jpg" alt=""]

All resource icons showing (can you guess their meaning?):

Testing begins: If nothing unforeseen happens, public testing will begin next weekend (probably starting friday night). So watch out for Christer's announcement! We will start with result uploading right away so teams can improve during playtest. Be aware though, that not all skills have been implemented yet (60 of 75 total are done - see the upcoming Release Notes) and there is no inducement phase.

Playtester Reward: All coaches sending in a unique (not duplicate) and proper bugreport and retesting it after it has been fixed will be mentioned in the about section (Help->About) of the client. Listing will be sorted by commitment (those doing the most work will be listed first :-) the rest follows alphabetically.

I had a sneak preview of this sometime last week when you were playing Shadow2x4.
Got to say it looks very pretty!
Posted by Calcium on 2010-04-14 14:10:50
Damn that looks good! Bring it on Kal!

This is great! Awesome work, thank you.

I am 115% looking forward to this (none of that pansy 110% for me!)

Again, rated 6, for lack of anything higher to rate it!

Nice! Too bad I will be busy this weekend :(

Edit: Already on the About-page \o/

I can't work out what the saw is for.

I guess the Red + is apothecary, which was my first thought for the saw ...

... unless Igor's show differently to Apoth's?
Posted by Kalimar on 2010-04-14 15:01:40
You're spot on: the saw is the igor :-) It won't show up together with the Apo of course - the above screenshot is just for testing / demonstration purposes.

nice!
Posted by maysrill on 2010-04-14 15:50:18
The Igor icon took me a while to figure out, mostly because I've never used one in my limited LRB5 experience. I figured it was a primitive take on an apo. That had me really confused about what the actual apo symbol was for :)

BTW, very encouraging to see the card icon in there. Even if it's not available at release, cards would be a sweet addition to the game.

I can't see what the dice surrounded by two green arrows mean ...

But great work you do ! Rated 6 :D

The preview the other week was great, very nice work to say the least. It's really impressive how quickly you've gotten this to such a polished state!
Posted by RandomOracle on 2010-04-14 19:29:58
Great work! Looking forward to be a part of the testing.
Posted by Kalimar on 2010-04-14 20:56:51
Quickly? Nice of you to say that, but in fact it's been almost 2.5 years now :-)
Posted by SeraphimRed on 2010-04-14 23:01:01
2.5 Years? Wow - got to admire the perseverance especially in light of the fact that you've done this amidst an official PC release and GW lameness.
Kudos!

Will there be cards in the game? (since you got one with a "?" on it)
Posted by Kalimar on 2010-04-15 09:57:34
Not right from the start no, sorry. But it's on the todo after completing skills and regular inducements.
Posted by Uomotigre3 on 2010-04-15 11:27:09
Amazing man...that is really awesome.

If I understood well, it is based on the latest rules of that game, right?

Will there be also the chance to beat the ref up?

Congrats again for everything you did and will do !!!

Rated 7, can't wait.

Wow. Special play cards will really change the game... must reread them as I haven't used them since the edition with the new block dice first came out.

Posted by Zuul on 2010-04-16 10:14:01
Can we still be in the About section if we make up a bug then resolve the bug issue by unimagining it?
Posted by maysrill on 2010-04-16 15:51:25
@clarkin

The new cards aren't that similar to the old ones. The concept remains, but most of them have been totally rewritten (and no permanent magic helmets anymore :( ) The 50k cards are just about throwaways, but the 400k cards are pretty solidly gamechanging, on the order of Morley's and Greatest.

Niiiiiiiiiiice! Great work Kalimar and Christer!
