Murphy's Law Sinks 'Elf Yourself' in Fumbbl Cup
Elf Yourself was eliminated from the third round of the Fumbbl Cup last night in a devastating defeat. After thrilling Round 1 and Round 2 victories, we fell in Round 3 to a tackle-less and mostly MB-less Norse team in true Murphy's Law fashion. Literally, anything that could have gone wrong, went wrong.

The dice were certainly not on our side:
- Repeated pows, KOs/casualties, and KOs not returning
- Consistent failed "easy" dice rolls with auto-RRs whenever we needed them most

That being said, we also made some tactical errors:
- Giving our opponent a free 2 BD hit vs. blodge then resulted in a pow, thus allowing our opponent a shot at the ball carrier (both leading to knock downs and KOs). Which we could have easily recovered from if not for a snake eyes on the ball pick-up attempt.
- Incorrectly setting up for a 5-man OTT attempt to force OT. Thankfully, we failed our necessary dice rolls either way, so even if we had setup correctly, it wouldn't have mattered.

Our opponents did an excellent job of capitalizing on our "mistakes". They converted our early snake-eyes pick-up attempt into a score and later took advantage of a failed dodge attempt on a to-be ball-carrier blitz to score. They were very opportunistic, and added their 3rd TD after we equalized late in the 2nd half, and were 0 for 4 on KO rolls, leaving us with just 3 elves on the pitch (2 of whom were KOed/stunned on opening blocks).

In the end, despite what appeared to be absolutely everything going wrong, we had a legitimate chance to force OT and possibly win the game, and that is a testament to the resilience of this blackbox Wood Elf squad whose record now falls to 17/1/2.

It was a very good year for Elf Yourself, with tournament victories in the Black Box Brawl CCVII, and most notably, the FUMBBL B Minor MW IX-1.

While we expected greater things from ourselves in the Fumbbl Cup, we acknowledge that despite troubling dice, ultimately the few tactical errors we made did contribute to our loss. But with a mostly healthy roster and a treasury of 240k, we look forward to the next opportunity to prove ourselves.

You had such lucky dice, on such a nice team (the 4+ pickups worked fine!). Don't put your thrower in range of a blitz out in the middle of nowhere, because they will get blitzed down quite regularly, and don't start your turn taking 2d blocks with loner big guys for no obvious gain (there's 16 turns in a game, they fail 1 in 9, it's not surprising that they fail).

Your opponent also forgot to leave a sweeper a couple times that let you score. As I've said before, if we all played perfectly, it'd be a boring contest of dice rolls.

I definitely made some mistakes but I certainly did not have "lucky dice". My dodge was largely ineffective and my guys were getting KOed/injured like it was nothing, with no MB.

I take responsibility for my mistakes, but if I had even half-decent luck that game, I would have easily been able to overcome the couple tactical errors I made.

I'm well aware of my mistakes, my woodelves don't end up 17/1/2 in the box and having won a B-minor and BBB without me understanding how to tactically use WEs. I lulled myself into a false sense of security on that early blitz, and my opponent needing a pow + gfi + 2 BD hit to knock me down is usually not horrible odds. And typically they don't both end up KOed followed by me rolling snake eyes.

You're right that my opponent consistently put himself in a position where I could easily run deep behind the lines, and on multiple of his TDs, with even just half decent dice, I could have easily pushed the ball deep for a TD of my own.
