After 3 of the most violent games they've ever played and a very controversial final, the Sammiches will proudly represent the stunties in the main draw of the GLT.
I just wanted to thank my opponents. I don't think I generally leave bad memories as a coach after a game, but that was different this time. I went all out, and played as dirty as I could. It's a major after all: I was ready to leave the pitch without a team for the sake of providing some entertainment if such was Nuffle's will, and I was expecting my opponents to share the same attitude. And surprisingly, they did.
So thanks to Skolopender and the
Low Few. I've got to admit I was a bit overconfident during the first half. I willingly left him a few shots at the ball carrier (1D on a blodger if I remember well), and was unable to score. The second half however was a blood bath and only his trolls were remaining on the pitch at the end.
Thanks to SkavenLordVinshqueek and
Da Squigling Shop of Horrorz for the second game. With a tree MNG, I was more careful this time, but a snake on the td line took us overtime, where I cleared the pitch before the final touchdown.
Thanks to Khor and
Tuerats, Tuerats pas for the great game. I wasn't very confident, but it went way better than expected. The Sammiches outbashed them during the first half, and was hesitating between scoring and giving him extra KO rolls, or just waiting for the next half. Fortunately, Nuffle decided for me after a both down. The second half didn't go any better for my opponent, and only one tree was left on the pitch after a few turns.
And finally there was the game against Zed and
Left my Heart in San Francisco. Zed being the picker he is :), that was the first game between San Fran and the Sammiches. There was everything for a great game: 2 of the best flings teams on Fumbbl, 2 coaches quite experienced with them, a bet with a lot on the line, smack talk, a bunch of spectator calling for blood... But it didn't go as expected.
The first half belonged to the Sammiches. They did their job, as usually. Once again, they almost cleared the pitch. Only one tree was left. They did what they do best: they look for a prey of interest, send a tree or a blocker, send him to Cas box, and start again with what's left on the pitch.
Unfortunately, the second half didn't go as expected. Zed in his own words borrowed a trick from my book and executed it brilliantly. He managed to trap my trees around his only treeman left, and caged / screened along the side-line, destroying my own flings on the way. I should have known better and moved a tree towards the cage one turn earlier, but I realized my mistake too late, and with all my rerolls stolen by his chef, I couldn't do much. That's when he decided to stall... for the rest of the game and forgot to equalize on the last turn.
The game was undecided when it happened, and it could have gone either way. Victory had a bitter taste. But the Sammiches will take it. I just wanted to give my point of view on what happened. That was silly, and it shouldn't have ended this way. That's probably the biggest mistake ever made in a final. However, it was just a mistake. Just like letting both my trees be trapped too far away from the action. Again, that's a very disappointing conclusion to what had been an amazing game until t16. But that's Blood Bowl. And I'm sure the Sammiches and San Fran will settle this some day.
Now the Sammiches will head to the main draw, and trade their status of favourite for the status of ultimate underdog. Sure, they stand no chance to win. They lost countless games against some of the best coaches out there. But... they also had their moments. There was this
epic game against Helena High for instance. Or this
game against Hot 5tuff...
So no, the Sammiches don't stand a chance. But in 4 games, a pro fanatic will join their ranks. :)
