Everything has an end...
Those who have read my previous blog entries know I've been traveling in South America since October, partially on foot, and, as of late, on a bloody kayak in the Amazon bassin. And what had to happen happened. Nope, nothing involving caimans, piranhas, or intimacy with a zon. I simply ran out of money, and it's time to take a break. Nothing's over, but I'm heading to French Guiana to see if I can find a job for something from a few months to a year. If not, I'll have to return to Europe, which would suck, even if it's just for a few months.

So yeah, at the end of the day, that was a long wait for a comparatively short time paddling, but it couldn't be helped, and it was definitely worth it. Forget Discovery Channel: the Amazon is nothing alike. But spending every night during a few weeks in villages of natives only connected to the rest of the world by the rio and never going further than the next village was an unforgettable experience. Hard, sometimes (I've been more than once welcomed with a riffle - Texan way), and tiring (they're world class bullshiters), but unforgettable.

So what now? I guess I'll have plenty of time to troll GF with my flings again. And quite frankly, I think it's time for a fresh start. I played a bunch of games when I was waiting for my kayak in Peru, and I slowly turned into something I hate. Someone who doesn't play to have fun, but to win. Just like the majority of the Fumbblers, like all those aspiring pro players (newsflash by the way: you will never get paid for playing so no, there is no such thing as a pro player). I started caring about my CR, or what's left of it, listening to the tournament scene (you know, all those guys in the audience who never made it to the main draw of a major but who know everything about the game and who call you a noob as soon as you turn your back), and, worst of all, I stopped caring about my opponents' fun and stalled during a whole half if that would have guaranteed me a victory. In a few words, I played as I was adviced to play on this site. Screw that. Sure, my CR and my win / loss ratio improved, but what's the point if that ruins all the fun for you or your opponent?

Remove me form the CR lists, erase my CR and win/loss ratio on my bio and team pages: it's time to return to the basics:

- Grab a pack of beer. The stronger, the better, especially if you intend to play flings. 8.6% Bavaria is just fine for that.
- Put your worst teams on GF. Flings, gobos and ogres are perfect.
- If Carlo's here, tick Carlo and try one more time to beat the site's Cas record. If not, tick every single 2500TV bash team looking for a game.
- Steal a couple of touchdowns, eventually, watch your team being destroyed, and laugh with the 10-20 specs whenever you hear the RIP sound. My flings need a trim anyway.
- Return to the liquor shop, and start again.

PS: I hope the last part didn't sound too whiney, that wasn't my intention. I still love this league, and those who have already played against me know it takes a damn lot for me to whine anyway. ;)

PPS: More to come on the future of the Sammiches in a few days. I don't know if I must boo or applaude Zed for his performance in the GLT btw. He made it to the second round, but he lost... Last year the Sammiches lost overtime in the first round of the main draw... Next year, Khor will made it to the 3rd round, and we will do it again until we unforlorn flings? /P

Your trip must have been amazing, those tribes/villages and paddling on the wild Amazon must be an incredible experience.
Also good on you for aiming to have fun with your opponent. I agree mostly and also would like more people to write reports and fluff. But on the other hand stalling out a half is just good tactics in most cases. Well done to those who can. The objective is not to make the game easy for your opponent. Balance having fun and playing well. A one sided stall can be boring but also deep thinking games with a strong opponent can be enjoyable too.

Nice write Kam. I would love if I could play the game in the same spirit than you do, but I think I will never be able to. And no, you don't sound too whiney. Read my blog written a minute ago and you'll see true whining.

Sounds like you have reached zen master of FUMBBL on how to have fun, finally.

Zed did pretty well on the whole. Not sure why he did his final ttm so close to the side line. Was a silly mistake really. The Norse game was awesome though. Roll on fumbbl cup. Flings can do it this year :P

Having fun playing is winning. Winning but it feeling like a chore is losing. I might blow the dust off SLF and start playing some crazy match ups with them again :D

Well Garion it's more the scatter who f... me over on this ttm, i was trying to avoid those tackle zone you know, i did made the ttm close but had made it before with success by the past but it's out of subject here, yeah bring back your flings Kam we will have to find an other occassion to finally have our vengeance against your little green mean bugger.

My point was just he should applaud you, not boo. That mistake aside. I get you were avoiding the TZ and you should have aimed for that area no doubt. But you you aimed to close to the side line. But its still an awesome achievement none the less... getting so far in a major with flings. Its just a shame the GLT is only once a year as I think you could actually make it all the way one day.

To be honest i have hesitate on how close i should have gone. Let's hope that next time you don't get me in first round of the stunty qualifier, hihihihi, and for Kam not cheering me for the little parkour i made, i'm physically unable to cheer for him too, it's just fair ^_^
Posted by Garion on 2014-06-26 19:30:42
hehe indeed. :D lets hope we meet in an all Fling final in the fumbbl cup :P

Oh nooo, you're back! (it's my way to say "welcome back" :) )
I'm glad to see that you've not been killed by a 'zon or sucked by a caiman (or vice versa). Your adventure was helpful if it showed you how to enjoy about Fumbbl, and further: in real life. Being alone, without any sound around, with nobody to talk with, is a pretty good lesson, to understand by yourself who you are, where you come from and where you go. As Jimmy Cliff would say... "I can see clearly now!"

I hope to spectate that final Garion is talking about, and to see you stalling in the 16th turn like Zed did! :P

The shocking thing I see about what you wrote is you consider 8.6% to be a strong beer :)

Endorse the Bush Ambrée 12% for BB !

Much kudos for following your heart. Being back to europe after travelling through what is left of reality must really feel awful. Good luck stocking on the paper (money) and i hope you can be back soon to finish what you started.

I feel the rain forest might might have made your look on fumbbl a bit more bitter than deserved - though it holds some truth.

Anyway...have fun man. Thumbs up! :D
