Those who have read my previous blog entries know I've been traveling in South America since October, partially on foot, and, as of late, on a bloody kayak in the Amazon bassin. And what had to happen happened. Nope, nothing involving caimans, piranhas, or intimacy with a zon. I simply ran out of money, and it's time to take a break. Nothing's over, but I'm heading to French Guiana to see if I can find a job for something from a few months to a year. If not, I'll have to return to Europe, which would suck, even if it's just for a few months.
So yeah, at the end of the day, that was a long wait for a comparatively short time paddling, but it couldn't be helped, and it was definitely worth it. Forget Discovery Channel: the Amazon is nothing alike. But spending every night during a few weeks in villages of natives only connected to the rest of the world by the rio and never going further than the next village was an unforgettable experience. Hard, sometimes (I've been more than once welcomed with a riffle - Texan way), and tiring (they're world class bullshiters), but unforgettable.
So what now? I guess I'll have plenty of time to troll GF with my flings again. And quite frankly, I think it's time for a fresh start. I played a bunch of games when I was waiting for my kayak in Peru, and I slowly turned into something I hate. Someone who doesn't play to have fun, but to win. Just like the majority of the Fumbblers, like all those aspiring pro players (newsflash by the way: you will never get paid for playing so no, there is no such thing as a pro player). I started caring about my CR, or what's left of it, listening to the tournament scene (you know, all those guys in the audience who never made it to the main draw of a major but who know everything about the game and who call you a noob as soon as you turn your back), and, worst of all, I stopped caring about my opponents' fun and stalled during a whole half if that would have guaranteed me a victory. In a few words, I played as I was adviced to play on this site. Screw that. Sure, my CR and my win / loss ratio improved, but what's the point if that ruins all the fun for you or your opponent?
Remove me form the CR lists, erase my CR and win/loss ratio on my bio and team pages: it's time to return to the basics:
- Grab a pack of beer. The stronger, the better, especially if you intend to play flings. 8.6% Bavaria is just fine for that.
- Put your worst teams on GF. Flings, gobos and ogres are perfect.
- If Carlo's here, tick Carlo and
try one more time to beat the site's Cas record. If not, tick every single 2500TV bash team looking for a game.
- Steal a couple of touchdowns, eventually, watch your team being destroyed, and laugh with the 10-20 specs whenever you hear the RIP sound. My flings need a trim anyway.
- Return to the liquor shop, and start again.
PS: I hope the last part didn't sound too whiney, that wasn't my intention. I still love this league, and those who have already played against me know it takes a damn lot for me to whine anyway. ;)
PPS: More to come on the future of the Sammiches in a few days. I don't know if I must boo or applaude Zed for his performance in the GLT btw. He made it to the second round, but he lost... Last year the Sammiches lost overtime in the first round of the main draw... Next year, Khor will made it to the 3rd round, and we will do it again until we unforlorn flings? /P
