Double 5 on a Chainsaw Goblin
My unskilled Chainsaw Goblin has rolled a double 5

Should I take:

+1AV - Keeps him a little safer
+1 MA - reaches next victim / safety a little easier
Block - Keeps him safer

Dodge - though is waste of a double

Or anything else you fiends can think of?

Help much appreictaed

Block or MA

AV is a waste as if he goes down, he is unlikely to be getting up next turn anyway!

Block

Block or Dirty Player.

Block.
Posted by Zed on 2014-11-20 00:05:34
make it your personal nobbla, block
Posted by huff on 2014-11-20 00:12:54
DP or Block.
Posted by the_Sage on 2014-11-20 00:19:27
Dirty player, because it stacks. Saws' problem is injury rolls.
Posted by PaddyMick on 2014-11-20 00:27:33
Block because he stays on the field longer and if you can get him to blodge sidestep he's a real pain if the other team is light on tackle. But, I use the saw for blitzing and a dp line gobbo for fouling. If you foul with him a lot, yeah DP would be great.
Posted by Chainsaw on 2014-11-20 00:45:25
Dirty player... oooo....

It depends. Will he stay on the field long enough to get blocked? Block. Will you be fouling with him and protecting him until the ref sends him packing? Dirty player.

Are you just AWESOME!? ARE YOU!!?! MIGHTY BLOW!
Posted by Cavetroll on 2014-11-20 00:46:21
Pass Block (or just pick one of those two words).
Posted by Kam on 2014-11-20 01:10:23
DP or Block. I'd probably pick DP. You don't want him to be blocked at all anyway.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2014-11-20 01:16:11
Oh yeah DP is good too. Tough call.
Posted by Chainsaw on 2014-11-20 01:26:41
Does MB work for a Chainsaw?
Posted by scipio_uranus on 2014-11-20 01:52:07
Block (safety), or MA (~safety, blitz/foul-range), or DP (...), - or maybe even Pro (!/?), - since it may let you re-roll the saw startup 2+ roll, in case you already wasted your rr for that turn.

Cause it's the first double, I'd lean towards the safety aspect first (and considering the probability of a +MA roll as well...), - I guess I'd pick either Block or MA.
Posted by xnoelx on 2014-11-20 02:04:46
"cause it's the first double"? As though there's going to be another? Don't plan ahead. He's unlikely to see a 2nd skill, let alone a 2nd double. Take DP.
Posted by scipio_uranus on 2014-11-20 03:24:48
"Don't plan ahead"? Good advice. :P

Yeah, - just roll those dice and click on something. :D
Posted by Fortis on 2014-11-20 05:22:17
MB works on the chainsaw, but ideally you're using the chainsaw to foul and the trolls or another gobbo to blitz. DP seems like the clear winner.
Posted by harvestmouse on 2014-11-20 06:53:39
I wouldn't hesitate in taking block.
Posted by roante on 2014-11-20 07:40:45
Block, then dodge. Make him a real PITA on the pitch!
Posted by Grod on 2014-11-20 08:22:21
Reading from the top I was thinking - yeak block... but when I read the Sage suggest DP - that just feels right.
Posted by blocknroll on 2014-11-20 10:10:27
I really didnt need the mental image of Russo's personal Nobbla this morning....
Posted by Jesperius on 2014-11-20 10:51:23
dp or block but ied go for dp. Ref will get him in the end anyways so better make a foul count before that.
Posted by jamesfarrell129 on 2014-11-20 11:12:52
Wrestle. Gives the defensive bonus of block (i.e. you don't get killed on a both-down), but doesn't waste the offensive bit (i.e. you're never 'blocking' anyone).

Tasty bonus: gives you a foul target next turn as well :-)
Posted by WhatBall on 2014-11-20 13:14:21
Lots of Stunty Leeg chainsaw play says Block.
Lost of Chainsaw on my team (3 at one point) in the KPL says Block.

No Block = huge target and quick removal.

AV is a waste, MA not much better really, you don't want him straying too far from the pack. DP is a consideration, but the chance of an early ejection is higher. Block with a 50K bribe for a second possible drive is much nicer.
Posted by Badoek on 2014-11-20 14:37:31
@jamesfarell129: mmm I like your thinking!
Posted by gamelsetlmatch on 2014-11-20 15:08:59
Has anyone tried out thick skull?

I see the saws getting KO all of the time.

Posted by mrt1212 on 2014-11-20 17:05:27
If you only have him for 8 turns most times, you want to maximize his value for those 8 turns. I'd go Dirty Player - blitzing with chainsaws, hell, blocking with chainsaws, is all well and good when it works, but when it doesn't, you're opening yourself up to counter blocks and blitzes and getting him removed the next turn. Dirty Player keeps him active and involved. There are some games where all your blocks come up pushes and you don't have an opportunity to foul but in general the 2000 basis points of safety that Block provides on a 2d6 block aren't going to be enough to keep him safe for more than a turn or 2
Posted by Village_Idiot on 2014-11-20 20:41:06
Ooh, wrestle, I think jamesfarrell129 has a winner there. It adds more protection than Block (once you're down, you won't get hit anymore; with Block you might) and you have a foul target next turn for sure. I'm liking that a lot.
Nothing wrong with DP neither.

JUST ONE CHOICE:
DIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTYYYYYYYYYYYYY PLAYYYYYYYYYAAAAAA
Posted by mrt1212 on 2014-11-21 03:10:44
The thing about wrestle is, the presumption here is that you're going to get a die result where both down is taken, so a 1d6 with both down or a 2d6 where the other face is a push or skull and the blocking player has Block. Whose to say that a player would take both down instead of pushv with no follow up if the mechanical difference amounts to 3 movement?
Posted by Village_Idiot on 2014-11-21 04:35:48
? How does your scenario play out differently if you select 'block' on the goblin instead? Of course it only works if the opponent picks both down. That's true for block also. Of course he'll select push instead of bothdown in that situation. How's that bad?
Posted by mrt1212 on 2014-11-21 07:22:10
I'm not advocating block ;)
Posted by PaddyMick on 2014-11-21 14:56:27
Wait a second........MB stacks with chainsaw?! that don't seem right, but if it is, MB is clearly the best pick for your next double. Can't stress enough how good blodge is on a saw (assuming he lives to get it). You can take more risks and only really have to protect him against St5 and tacklers, which is easier.
Posted by Russo on 2014-11-21 18:18:42
DAMN IT!!!!!

I wanted help not further confusion. Just as someone seems to have convinced me then the next adds more contradictory evidence to the case!

Well AV and MA are ruled out. MB is not an option as he is ST2 and it does not appear on list of options for him

That leaves Block Wrestle and DP

Block is ruled out as Wrestle is a safer skill so Wrestle or DP....bugger!!!!

I play Dorfs next so its Wrestle LOL

Thanks everyone for your help :-)
Posted by PaddyMick on 2014-11-21 21:53:17
Eh? Wrestle? Block keeps him standing so he can shove a chainsaw in the face of that dorf on your turn!
Posted by Russo on 2014-11-22 06:25:47
Nope see post earlier by mrt. He has a free victim next turn but also is more useful as a tactical skill on top of saw ability.
Wrestle does not see injury by saw either.
