Hilarious and unfortunately very true.
But what is a VAT exactly... in #6?
That doesn't translate to American English.
The rest of it is exactly what is going on here too.

VAT = Value Added Tax
In the UK we pay it on everything I beieve it is about 17.5%

V.A.T. is set at 15% at the moment, although it is set to raise back to 17.5% in the new year.
It is put on most things. There are exceptions such as childrens' clothes, books and some foods. It is even charged on services, such as taxi journeys and cleaning.

im confused, i was nodding along with the 'decline in maths standards' riff, then found i was being dragged into a right wing racist rant of daily mail proportions.
Stuffed with the sort of massive exageration they pass off as 'comment' or 'prediction'.

I am not actaully saying I uphold any of the populist arguments about decline of modern society, merely that the tale is actually funny.
I am actually from a family of mainly teachers, and culturally very different members so I have a pretty grounded set of views about English education and the cosmopolitain nature of modern Britain.
I dislike the Daily Mail..more of a Sunday Times man myself :P
