as the owner of a designer beard i can confirm the the beard in discussion is in fact a man beard
Posted by Cavetroll on 2013-06-25 20:53:19
If Castleman had a plaid shirt on, he could be a lumberjack. Gonna vote man beard on this one.
Posted by Throweck on 2013-06-25 20:54:49
I am by no means an expert on beards or any kind of facial hair other than my terrible attempt during 'Movember', but I would say Castleman has a man beard.

Man Beard!
Posted by dfunkateer on 2013-06-25 21:13:09
I just looked in my Book of Beards and next to 'Man beard' was a picture of Castleman. No words or nuffin. Just Castleman.

MAN BEARD!!!!!

Man beard
Posted by uzkulak on 2013-06-25 21:40:32
IMO, its an (ancient)man beard or alternatively a (wild)man beard. Modern (civilized)men trim their beards - they might even attempt to style it.
But this is clearly a beard that belongs to a human male. SO the answer to teh question posed must be yes.
Certainly not a hipster beard though, due to lack of any beard management techniques.
Posted by uzkulak on 2013-06-25 21:43:10
I have added a profile pic of me in a silly pose demonstrating what I believe a (modern)man beard looks like. :P
Posted by CastleMan on 2013-06-25 21:46:17
modern man beard, still a beard.
Posted by Jeffro on 2013-06-25 22:02:40
Granted I can't grow decent facial hair... but that's a man beard. Hipster beards have spaces.
Posted by Scaramanga on 2013-06-25 22:15:26
It's a true man beard. Like i want to have but my wife dont like that.
Posted by CastleMan on 2013-06-25 22:32:39
Almost all wives hate man beards. At least mine and Scaramanga does. So maybe not all. but at least two.
Posted by B_SIDE on 2013-06-25 22:36:23
I think what you're seeing there is a pretty versatile piece. It could be hip, or it could be manly- I think it depends mostly on the type of cap one chooses to accessorize with.

Pffft... that's clearly a hipster beard. Real men have proper sized beards, not cheek scruff like that. :D
Posted by Elliott_the_Lame on 2013-06-25 22:59:13
Man beard.
I also agree with B_SIDE as to the beard alone is not what makes one "hip" or not, but what accompanies said beard. Flannel(What year is it? It's 2013, not 1993!), or a can a PBR, and we would be shaming BeardMan(CastleMan) for his overly tight pants, and poor choices in tattoos.

Also rated 6.
Because beards are awesome.
Posted by Rabe on 2013-06-25 23:03:59
I throw my beard into the ring:

Can't compete with CastleMan's man beard (!), but I still like it. Also, I got a lot more hair at the top of my head.
Rated 6 for beards, obviously.

Man beard yarr!
Posted by pythrr on 2013-06-25 23:27:52
This is fascinating. I did not know you people were such beard-o-philes.
Posted by licker on 2013-06-25 23:37:16
Beards are for metrosexuals.
Posted by CastleMan on 2013-06-25 23:38:38
I have awesome tattoes and i usually don't wear a hat or any accesseries. I have about 8 seperate places tattoed, ranging from my daughters name on my hand to a zombie aqau teen hunger force on my arm. Hipster, I am not. And yes RABE, I am balding. The top of my head and my chin had an epic fight for the control of my hair. The chin won.
Posted by Badoek on 2013-06-25 23:45:45
awesome blog post
man beard
althou now we need a picture of pythrr's beard
Posted by Royston on 2013-06-26 00:05:37
Being one of the (usually) silent follicle challenged folk, I find this blog non-inclusive and thus should be purged from t'internet along with all other discussions of beardedness.
Posted by GAZZATROT on 2013-06-26 00:06:12
Mo's are far more manly and have way more variation.
Posted by gjopie on 2013-06-26 00:09:50
I'm gonna be brave and be the first to suggest hipster beard. On the basis that my flatmate has exactly the same beard, and he is definitely a hipster. It has the appearance of being unmanaged and manly, but is actually carefully cultivated to *look* unmanaged and manly.
Hipster.
Posted by Nekran on 2013-06-26 00:20:36
Obvious man beard
Posted by CastleMan on 2013-06-26 00:32:39
How dare you sir? -1. Surely you can't judge a manly beard.
Posted by Mr_Foulscumm on 2013-06-26 00:33:25
gjopie, you're not the first. Sorry. :(
Posted by CastleMan on 2013-06-26 00:33:32
Read the other posts. It is pretty clear.
Posted by Mr_Foulscumm on 2013-06-26 00:35:45
I read my post, makes it clear. You have hipster cheek scruff :D
Posted by CastleMan on 2013-06-26 00:42:59
Either way. I am a man and I have a beard. Therefore, it's a man beard.
Posted by Araznaroth on 2013-06-26 01:17:12
Ooh I see he lost the hipster hat! Looks more MR.T now. Beards are cool, fool!
:)
Posted by ahalfling on 2013-06-26 01:31:40
Well, at least it's not a dwarf beard.
Posted by lizvis on 2013-06-26 02:45:50
this beard is NEITHER hipster nor man. this is merely a fat guy trying to cover up his chins with lots of crappy facial hair. see shadow and fouly for further examples.
Posted by Loraxwolfsbane on 2013-06-26 03:30:02
The man is ever so slightly balding. That is a man beard. Not a hipster beard
Posted by pythrr on 2013-06-26 03:33:04
ooo, controversy!!
Do we have a sneaky stealth hipster in play here?
Has the Castle beard been outed as plaid flannel rather than manly lumberjack?
I have to say the piercing revelations are making me learn towards hipster once more - - lumberjacks don;t go in for that type of thing do they? Do they Michael Palin!?
Posted by keggiemckill on 2013-06-26 03:39:00
Funny thing to write about because there alot of hipster beards out there. I now have a beard. My Mother died 2 years and a bit ago and every since I have been growing beards. I say beards, because I like the aspect of growing them and not really having them. It takes me a long time to grow facial fair. So the beard I currently have is last September old. Not close to Castlebeardmans. Im trying to go a year with one. I like having it this time around, but I do get the remarks of Duck Dynasty quite alot. Where I have to reply I have been growing it for 2 years and a bit. So, I grow it, then shave it.
There are alot of positives for my beard. I look older. Most people don't grow one, so I do differ to the normal perception of a preppy male. I think the biggest reason why you are starting to see beards in North America, is because [b] They Hide the Dreaded Double Chins.{/b] Fat people don't look as fat, with a beard. Anyways that is my guess.
Posted by CastleMan on 2013-06-26 03:50:41
0 piercings, just tattoes
Posted by lizvis on 2013-06-26 06:45:04

man beard raar!
Posted by Russo on 2013-06-26 09:49:09
Hmmm....question is do hot women want to kiss a "man" wearing a beard like this.
Obviously all the people responding to this post in support of the beard must feel it desirable enough to have it pressing against your lips in a passionate snog with whoever is sporting the shaggy chin-rug.
The thing is I dont see the opinion of anyone whom I might want to snog myself on this subject :-P
Posted by cthol on 2013-06-26 11:13:21
Well mrs cthol is smokin hot and she has warned me we will divorce if I lose the beard, so yes, at least one woman is quite happy with the idea. I have to assume that there are more of the same opinion, and not that I have been lucky enough to find the 1 in 3,000,000,000 woman who likes beards. Plus my dad had a beard, and he procreated at least 4 times with the same woman, so that's another.
Posted by Mr_Foulscumm on 2013-06-26 12:32:44
Russo, hot wimin think beards are hot.
Posted by Rabe on 2013-06-26 13:01:59
Now that fathers and heritage have been brought up, I remember my dad having a rather similar beard to CastleMan's in younger days - at least the photo on his 30-years old drivers license suggests so. Never got to grow a beard like that myself - and I suspect my wife wouldn't like it. She's fine with the different beard cuts I had over the last years, she wouldn't divorce me for losing it either. That may only happen if I cut my regular hair (she's quite militant about women, but especially men shortening their hair). Don't know how hot she is to others though, so I probably can't answer the question if hot women want to kiss bristled facial hair as much as lips. Can't provide a second chin either, so I actually have nothing to say here. Thanks for reading it anyway!
Posted by Russo on 2013-06-26 14:08:56
Well I actually sport a beard currently, but a neatly trimmed one that allows me to eat food (amongst other things ahem) in a civilised manner.
Women have liked it but I know for sure that a shaggy monstrosity would se me losing the "shaggy" from my life :-P
Posted by pythrr on 2013-06-26 17:25:52
And this would be a bad thing, right?
Posted by Russo on 2013-06-26 19:22:00
Well I know you would surely die without the "shaggy" in your life. I have heard rumours that it has overtaken oxygen on your body's internal oddometer
:-P
Posted by pythrr on 2013-06-26 20:56:36
Oxygen is over-rated.
BDSM, now, that's another story...
Posted by pythrr on 2013-06-26 20:57:05
Anyway........ beards.
Posted by Dalfort on 2013-12-26 08:50:21
@russo Sheep that like beards are Goats...
I am of the opinion it is a Man Beard. My wife would be a beard hater too, but haters gonna hate :/
