Lino-rhymes!

i love Tzeentch because it lets me name players by hitting the keyboard with the head in name of arcane chaotic chtulu-like fluff.
Posted by Burnalot on 2016-09-06 18:06:01
Are they really legal naming schemes now? I think formerly naming players like that was not allowed.
Posted by pythrr on 2016-09-06 18:07:18
I think they are, Burnalot. I don't think that they _should_ be, but that's the impression I've been given by admins.

It is one of the team creation rules however it would be a bit of a bastard to police it
Posted by pythrr on 2016-09-06 18:17:25
awamba -- yup! Chaos teams can certainly fluff it with
Borax da Mongler
Abwachthul the Red
Vxlicorchtla Grombiter
and
Broximotalipatlae Groxigax
on their front line.
That took no effort at all. Just clicking keys and adding the occasional vowel.
Posted by pythrr on 2016-09-06 18:19:12
actually, all the rules say is this:
Teams and Rosters
All players and teams must be named properly. Make an effort figuring out names. We don't want silly names like 'Lineman 1' or offensive names. Use your judgement.
If any team roster changes, the current teams will stay in their current state but will be unable to purchase new offending players. However, any positions that change will be changed globally in accordance of the new rules.
If your team has bugs such as double players or double skills, do not play games or try to fix it on your own. Contact an administrator so it can be resolved properly.
Teams in competitive divisions are expected to strive for at least 11 players on the roster. While this doesn't mean that any team below 11 players must immediately hire a new lineman, coaches are expected to not let the team deteriorate on purpose.
---
it all comes down to what is a "silly name".

hear hear! Flufferize those teams a bit, it makes it interesting to play them long term.
Grandpa Pythrr, tell us about back in the day when you had to walk 10 miles through the snow to the BB club and then played on a board with miniatures, not even on the computer! :D
Posted by pythrr on 2016-09-06 18:27:19
a board, a board!? oh, what luxury! we would have killed to have a board! we used to have to make our own pitch with chalk on the road, and then have to move all the models (which we had to whittle out of old bits of driftwood) off the road whenever a horse and cart came by! oh, I still remember the calls: "CART!", and we would scramble off the road and have to remember where all the models were on the pitch! Marking players! We had to memorize WHERE every player was, let alone what skills they had! You kids today.....
Posted by Malmir on 2016-09-06 18:34:29
Chalk? Paradise! We dreamed of having chalk. We had to use our own bones to mark out the pitch on quicksand. Eyes were used as lineman and I once donated a kidney to represent Ripper Bolgrot. Chalk? You don't know you're born.
Posted by spubbbba on 2016-09-06 18:39:50
It takes a few seconds to google a random name generator. You even get race specific ones that should cover most BB teams.
Posted by ArrestedDevelopment on 2016-09-06 19:00:03
Quicksand? You pampered young oaf! We used to play on volcanic flow, the swirls of sulphur vapours peeling through the air marking the lines of the pitch! Eyes were a mere luxury, we lost ours midway through turn one usually and they were burnt too badly to be used as player markers, so we had to resort to using the charred remains of bones "rescued" from our appendages.
And as for a kidney! ha! We *dreamed* of using kidneys for stars - if we had, I might have been able to have children of my own.
Quicksand? Coddled.

At least the example team wrote those names himself. You know how lazy people do it? They use generators. That's lazy but no one sees that an issue because "at least they are fluffy names". Which one would you prioritize? Effort to rhyme or effort to click+copypaste?
Honestly i have no issue against neither: i use generators myself (but i usually tweak the names a lot because usually they are too weird for me or "not my type" of names.. so i might combine them or edit some letters out or add something..).. and my Dwarf teams names almost look like the ones in example because i named everyone after the 7 Dwarfs (who hang with Snowwhite.. i managed to get full team of different names because different adaptations had different names).
Posted by keggiemckill on 2016-09-06 21:27:35
I use a good old fashion name Generator.
Posted by akaRenton on 2016-09-06 21:57:12
All of the Cranberries are named using a generator for ideas, then slightly tweaking the results to what I liked.
Numbers or repetitive names are very dull though, doesn't take much effort to vary the names. Adding nicknames in the middle helps, like Mackle "Two noses" McNibs :D

Psh, I just stuck with a theme and named everyone on my fling team things that go good with Bacon!!
https://fumbbl.com/p/team?op=pastplayers&team_id=706489
TBH its getting a little hard to keep from repeating atm.
And yes, non-goofy/lazy names are sort of based on personal opinion. Changing a single letter for all men is what I consider in this bracket.
Also you may all be warned I get... Inventive when I rename teams that have fairly high SPP players. I recall I made fun of a +STR Wardancer who got more +STR once, that was fun.
Posted by pythrr on 2016-09-06 23:07:41
lol. also, bacon themed team is great. noms
Posted by Lorebass on 2016-09-07 00:11:11
Lets report these teams in small batches though, else I get bored and just rename them after the guy what flagged em!!
(Im talking to you... you know who, that's right.)

The rules do include these type of names. In the "Mostly Unacceptable" list: https://fumbbl.com/help:TeamNames
Posted by Rbthma on 2016-09-07 00:54:41
Names are everywhere. I copied the chat log from a few(different) coaches and came up with some: u lucker, i cry?, i think u cry, no comment, a billion of skull, Holy rock, chooosee, next time I want fun, /sigh, not funny anymore, conceding next turn, 6... 6... 6..., etc. I just don't think I can pull off a good theme with them though.
Posted by Rbthma on 2016-09-07 01:03:41
@Lorebass:
I've reported a few teams, but it's usually the most egregious examples IMO: the '1', '2', etc. names. Though the rhyming names aren't my favorites I understand that not every coach wants to spend a lot of time naming players.
Posted by Lorebass on 2016-09-07 01:13:51
Haha, was mostly a joke. We appreciate the help of other coaches on things like this.
Posted by Kam on 2016-09-07 01:36:12
Well, rhyming names can be fluffed up. I do that a lot with Orcs and Norses (coz, seriously, who can pronounce an Orc name?). I also have an "all Bob" Chaos team. Admittedly, it's not the most inovative thing I've done on FUMBBL, but I find it more creative than using a random name generator as I do sometimes with my Flings. Also, keep in mind when you have teams with hundreds of past players, it's getting hard to be creative. I already do it with the biopics (and trust me it's a pita when you have to do it after every game), it's more than enough for me.
Posted by pythrr on 2016-09-07 02:40:01
crap name jihad declared!!!!!
Posted by Rbthma on 2016-09-07 03:35:45
@Kam: I know what you mean, I've got dozens of text files for teams documenting past players for the teams and other files for general race names I like. I simplify the process a little bit by imagining that each position is filled by a family so I don't have to change the last name, I only have to create the first name. Still, it can be quite a process but I enjoy it when I make a name I really like. Sucks when they die in their first game though.

Posted by easilyamused on 2016-09-07 10:51:50
I know you like fluff, not everyone else does. As long as the names are legal I really couldn't care less to be honest.
I don't think you appreciate how long it actually takes us to go through a list of 20+ teams that have been reported, check them for rule breaks, change offending names and then approve them.
Much more productive things I can do with my time.
Also, please note the warning on the report team page. It says "Note that this action is logged, and unnecessary reporting will get your account suspended."
Now move along, nothing to see here.
Posted by Kam on 2016-09-07 15:06:34
@ Rbthma: that's pretty clever. I already have recurring family names for my Flings (obviously not position-based). That gives me an idea... I guess I could write a small bash script that automatically picks a last name from a pool, associate it with a first name, check online if it's not already used, and eventually generate some sort of family tree.
Posted by Rbthma on 2016-09-07 18:14:12
@Kam: thanks! It satisfies my desire to have nice names and (so far) isn't too unwieldy. Also, it does add a bit to the teams history as certain families tend to be very unlucky with lots of RIPs. Automating is ideal and one of these days I'll have to try and learn some of these programming languages.
@Mr_Foulscumm: Nice! Granpa Pythrr's team is sooo old that they're all skeletons XD
