Someone on Discord asked when seasons and re-drafting would be implemented on FUMBBL, and this has come up a few times before as well. I spent a little bit of time to write up a little bit of a longer-form explanation of why it's taking so long, and figured I might as well post it on here as well for those of you who aren't on Discord (or simply missed the message). It's quite long for a Discord message, but not very long for a blog, but here it is anyway:

The current team page is very old code, and has been through a huge number of "patch" cycles, so it's become a pile of individual features in a huge pile, sitting on a foundation that isn't suitable to hold it all up. It works, but is very difficult to add things to. This is called "technical debt", which results from postponing "doing it right" for every little extra feature you add to the future.

Seasons are a big enough feature that I don't want to pile it on top, but instead want to take a step back to fix the proverbial foundation first. Luckily, @HimalayaP1C7 has taken on the task to work with me on a complete team page redesign that improves the fundamental architecture of the page and essentially does a cleanup of the code for it to prepare for seasons.

At the same time, we are working tightly together to come up with an improved UI/UX which streamlines a bunch of things that are awkward right now (eg. faster team creation), and adds features that are long due (renumbering of players to give an example of this).

My intent is that once this new team page supports the current feature-set, we will push that live and then start working on the features required for the re-drafting process.

With all that being said, I don't want to give an ETA because there is a lot of work to be done, and no real reason to put stress onto myself and HimalayaP1C7 to meet arbitrary deadlines. We are working as fast as we can and have the mental energy to and will not sacrifice the latter to make it go faster.
