So I was thinking
So I was thinking about starting some kind of championship league the other day, but don't know a thing about it. My question is, are "championship prizes" only limited to in-game bonuses, or can there be something more? I have $100 in my steam account I can use to gift people games, for example... or even offer a straight up cash prize to the winner.

I'd probably have it be 40 teams, everyone plays everyone once scheduling games "as needed" (I've never liked one-game-a-week things, I prefer 1/day), and whenever all 40 have played each other, top 20 advance, and so on until we're left with two teams for all the marbles. I was also thinking of only doing "one positional only" (as I run a couple of rodent teams with just one gutter runner) with everyone else being linemen; the league would be limited to hybrid or finesse teams (no big bashers like dwarves or chaos or the like).

Or am I thinking too big here (since 40 games means a developed team for sure)? I've never run a league before whether in cyanide or here and am about as smart as a below-average rat ogre on the subject, so you league-runners out there can probably offer me bits of advice.

my only comment would be that I think it's best to avoid using 'real' prizes unless you want to invite a load of rules wrangling, forum arguments, sandy vaginas and toys thrown out of prams.

keep it casual ;] just my 2c

I'd like to start an open League with the nerfed PO rules, claw dosn't stack, stunty works against tackle, etc.

Which ever team has had the highest fan factor after 1 month gets a full set of FUMBBL dice. (I have mucho dice) A tie is decided by who got to the highest fan factor in the least amount of games. All teams must start with 0 fan factor and buying it at any time is illegal.

After the initial winner, high fan factor will somehow always be a part of who wins the next set of FUMBBL dice, etc.

It'll be the FUMBBL Fan's Favorite League. (FFFL) Open to all. Wanna run that? Anyone wanna help run that? I'd do the art, supply the dice, promote it a little. Anyone PM me if interested.

Interesting concept, Murker. I'll think it over, but don't hold me to it... :)

Over 40 games you may get a few drop-outs unless you are ultra selective of your coaches. Even in an 8 game season people drop out :-(

I'd also say avoid real $.
If you get a site admin to join the league, there may be a chance you can have some skill-prizes for example.
Otherwise I suggest you do like I do in swedish League, give prizes like click games or consession games (with a "prize team"). That way the winning team get more treasury and one or two MVP. THe only drawback is that players may die of rocks, but the "prize team" should be far behind in FF anyway.

Avoid real money, completely

Forget the prize. You don't need it.

If you are talking about an "open round robin" league Fumbbl currently limits you to 26 teams per division.

If you get 26 teams few if any of them will play the full 25 games. No matter how long you let the league run for.

There WILL be a certain amount of dodging & cherry picking. The more serious the league is the more dodging & cherry picking you will have. The more serious it is the more bad feeling there will be about people getting dodged or picked. So no. Don't have 'real' prizes. Aim for a bunch of laid back, "play for fun" coaches.
If you get a load of serious tournament boys it just won't work.

You could just join the O[L]C. ;)
