NBFL NFC West Draft Grading Roundtable
Fan Foulcisco Fakes
Underworld, Lorebass
Last Season: 3-2-9.
Assets: Troll, 1 Thrower, some good Goblins.
Needs: Blitzers, Thrower, Linemen.
Draft Capital: 2, 34.
#2 A.J. Hawk[OHIO], Blitzer. +ST, +AG, Tackle, 46 SPP.
#34 James Winsome [FSU], Blitzer. Dodge, Tackle, Side Step, Jump Up, 51 SPP.
GPA: 2.70
• Bazakastine: B-
1st pick is great. 4ST 4AG blitzer is something you can always use and is worth forgoing the mutations for sure. The 2nd pick is what holds it back. It’s a perfectly fine player but a bad Underworld blitzer. Dodge, Sidestep and Jump up are all normal rolls that are worse for what you need than 3 normals (Mighty Blow, Claw, horns) would be
• JackassRampant: B-
A.J. Hawk was the correct pick, sure. He’ll be very good if he lives, because he’s got built-in Horns and Two Heads. But Winsome is an experiment best left for some other team. Underworld only get two Blitzers and going off-type isn’t desirable. Disciplined Blitzer development is the key to Underworld success. A 6SPP undrafted free agent, or Chris Spielman (PO, MB, Tackle, 46 SPP), would have been better. (Since you’re stuck with what you got, Lorebass, don’t send good money after bad: get Prehensile Tail or Foul appearance at Super Star with Winsome.)
• Arrested Development: B-
This grade is high because the Fakes filled needs. It's not higher because these players would be good on literally any other team than the fakes.
• Jeffro:
Can't blame someone for going to the well of fabulous talent that is THE Ohio State Drunkguys. Captain Aaron James Hawk, ladies and gentlemen. As solid as solid can be. Now, *I* would've traded down... but that's me.
Hot Arizona Sticky
Nurgle, Amon242
Last Season: 4-8-2.
Assets: 2 Bloaters, 3 Pestigors, Rotspawn.
Needs: 2 Bloaters, Pestigor.
Draft Capital: 17, 49.
Trades: Traded #17 down for #29 and #61.
#29 Marc Brown [HOWL], Pestigor. Mighty Blow, Block, Tackle, Guard, 63 SPP.
#49 Ryan “the Girth” Wirth, [CONN], Bloater. Block, Guard, 19 SPP.
#61 Naquez [UK], Bloater. Break Tackle, Block, [Skill], 33 SPP.
GPA: 2.77
• JackassRampant: B+
The value pick was the top one here: Marc Brown is a good solid Pestigor. Brown and Naquez were acquired in trade for the 17th pick, and while the picks in between 17th and 29th included some good Bloaters, the haul Amon got for the pick he had was quite worthy, if you like Break Tackle no less than Dodge on MA4, because a Blodge Bloater with MB and G or T was what he could have had at #17, which is probably why he took the deal.
• Bazakastine: C+
Depressed grade because they got fairly bad value on the trade down. Combine this with a relatively dead skill on a warrior and its tough to feel great about it. Luckily the roster was already in pretty good shape so they should be competitive with their boring but functional first 2 picks.
• Arrested Development: B-
Two solid picks and one absolutely awful one.
• Jeffro:
Solid. Sticky. Icky. Yucky.
C’attle C’haos
Chaos, MenonaLoco
Last Season: 8-3-2. Playoffs: #1 seed, 1-1.
Assets: 3 Blockers, lots of Beastemn, okay Minotaur.
Needs: Blocker.
Draft Capital: 30, 62.
Trades: #30 and #62 traded up for #23.
#23 Jermon Bushrod [HOWL], Warrior. Block, Guard, Dodge, Mighty Blow, 53 SPP.
GPA: 3.1
•JackassRampant: B+
This was a good trade for Menona. Bushrod is a solid Warrior, and that’s all he needed. Pick #62 would have been a vanity pick, and all the good Warriors were gone by #30.
• Bazakastine: B
Got decent value on the trade up as they are a high TV team who really did not need a 2nd pick. They needed a warrior with functional warrior skills and that is what they got.
• Arrested Development: B
Not a fan of dodge on CWs, but hey, needed a warrior got a warrior. And not a bad one at that.
• Jeffro:
Almost kicked myself for trading him this pick. Y'all can blame me if it ends up being a key kog in the death wheel that is the C'attle.
Los Angeles Glams
High Elf, Stimme
Last Season: 7-6-1. Playoffs: #5 seed, 4-0, NBFL Champion.
Assets: 2 Blitzers, Catcher/Blitzer, Thrower, a couple Linemen.
Needs: Catchers, maybe a Lineman.
Draft Capital: 32, 64.
#32 Alan Bridgford [CAL], Catcher. +MA, Side Step, 29 SPP.
#64 voided.
GPA: 2.47
• JackassRampant: C.
Bridgford may turn into something good, or may die young. I’m not keen on forfeiting picks. If nothing else, draft the remaining player you think is most draftable by your rivals and don’t hire him. That’s what I would have done. That or Tahj Mowry with Dodge, a skill roll, and 24 SPP.
• Bazakastine: B-
Alan Bridgeford is a potential gamechanger with high upside and a coach that can maximize it. Forfeiting the 2nd pick doesn’t make sense with the current draft rules but considering how skill rolls have changed its understandable.
• Arrested Development: B-
HC Stimme steps up and picks... a potential one turner. We saw other options on the board, but I guess the Glams know what they want.
• Jeffro:
NOBODY CARES THAT YOU FORFEITED A PLAYER, ALEX!!! NOBODY!! CARES!!
