I suppose there have been a few mentions of the NAF World Cup about site, but you can’t have enough talk about it, if you ask me.
For the uninitiated, this past weekend, 480 or so coaches from the four corners of the globe descended upon Amsterdam for 9 games of BB each across 3 days. It must have been a logistical nightmare, but everything ran nigh on perfectly. The organisation was just amazing, with a website constantly updated, scrolling rankings on big TV screens, great food, superb.
I can’t tell you what a fine few days I’ve just had, how many FUMBBLers I shared a beer with, and how many new friends I made. I’ve come back with about 50 new jokes and stories, all of which are either unrepeatable here or out of context will mean nothing.
I know the FUMBBL Cup (a fine event) is huge and is up and running currently, but this was just something else. To think, four years ago at the first WC at Warhammer World, I was a bit of a sceptic. I did catch myself wondering what kind of people would play the game in real life, whether it was a good idea, whether they’d be any good, etc. Turning up for a pint changed my mind, and now I’m a bit hooked, it’s bananas. For those of you that are in that state currently, I can’t recommend enough taking up the hobby in real life. I travelled to Amsterdam with 5 great teammates and many more friends, and just had a superb holiday that I won’t forget very quickly. Well, I’ve already forgotten some of it, but nights out drinking with Danes will do that for you.
We had some luck at the right times against quality opposition (if you’d told me we’d 4/2/0 a team of Flix, Oventa, Jokaero, Strider, Kithor and BudSpencer before the game, I’dve been amazed), and somehow the Waterbowl of Manchester are the Champs. My Lizardmen were our 5th best team with a record of 5/1/3 (which I guess under normal circumstances I’d be a bit disappointed with), but all 6 guys finished above .500 and scored us points. Special mention to Joe, however, whos’ 7/2/0 really anchored the side, and Jim for being captain. Which mainly involved being loud and wearing an armband he’d bought from e-bay.
Plenty of pictures to be found here (including us really badly singing ‘God Save the Queen’, I’m thrusting the trophy at some Brits on the second tier of the venue)

If you were there, awesome, I hope we ran into each other and shared a drink. If not, I hope in four years’ time (if not before, I seem to only be playing more…) you’ll have started playing TT BB, and you’ll hunt me out for a drink.
I’m now going to go to sleep and recover – although that may take a long old time. And I;ve got a FC game tonight – never ends, does it?! :)
