I wanted to rate this blog '1' because I live in Weymouth, dorset and we NEVER GET SNOW! so I am sat in a Mcdonalds abusing their wi-fi to respond to this blog!
I have work colleagues country wide basking in time off because of snow. Me? No sniffs! Just some ice and cold fingers + toes.....

Did no one tell you it was grim up here...?
Posted by Purplegoo on 2010-01-05 12:14:31
In all of that snow London and the rest of the country had last Janurary / Feb, the NW (or my bit) didn't get a single flake. I had to put up with my London mates getting like a week off work and me being frozen at my desk.
It's my glorious turn, Calcium. ;)

To be honest we have got off lightly. Its not that cold yet.
You know its cold in the north when the girls (and Cribbleobblepie for that matter) stop wearing mini skirts, and thats not happened yet.

Can't believe you even attempted to go in. :P
Snow = me working from home and qualifying for the second round in the OBBA Cup. ;)
I hope you don't favour so well xP

Annoyingly, in the last two hours the forecast seems to have switched from more snow to clear skys.
Bugger.
Still, it says clear skies now and it's snowing...

Stan wishes I'd wear a miniskirt for him, Lord knows he asks me enough...

I never get time of for snow. NEVER. Walking to work sucks. As does living 10 minutes away. As does living in the driest place in the country.

My first ever time, and I did work, and it looks like it'll only be one day.
Not brilliant, but better than nothing I guess :)

I live in the northeast US, so I'm getting a kick out of this :)
I live an hour from work, so I'll sometimes take the day at home during a bad storm rather than double my commute, but an entire office empty? Week off from work for snow? Doesn't the UK have plows?
Posted by Zombie69 on 2010-01-05 16:38:14
Funny Brits, a bit of snow and they're paralized. We got 15cm of snow here last night and it's business as usual.

us in the Eastern US got hit by a massive snow storm (biggest I can remember) the week before Christmas. 20 inches at school (where I was)! Of course it did snow on a Saturday and roads were cleared by Monday, so no snow days. And then it rained on Christmas to wipe out the snow :( Still, it was fun while it lasted!

Heard a nasty rumour someone in Newcastle was wearing a jumper... Just waiting for the aid parcels to be helicoptered in. Seriously we have no clue how to cope with snow. We have 0 ploughs, barely any grit and at a light sprinkling causes people to slow to about 10mph so real snow is game over.

A dusting of snow in Bath this afternoon and half the office go home early. Barely any snow even on the golf course by my house at the moment. :(

Here on the Isle of Wight, we rarely get snow, well guess what since 3pm its been snowing and the island has ground to a halt, about 6ins of snow where I live....and more expected hehehe
must be bad

I know the feeling - I live in south Liverpool and work in Risley. After walking through the almost-foot thick snow to get to my office, I find there is a total of 4 people in the whole building....
... I gave up and lunch time and truged back. Snowed in tomorrow?

wow. just wow. a fellow student of mine made a semester abroad in the uk. the two things he told me about britains seem to be true:
1. if you want to get a conversation started, talk about the weather (see # of comments to this blogentry). it's facinating, how this works. i actually tried this once, when is was making a trip to london. if you would try this here, all you would get would be a shrug, if you're lucky...
2. show them a flake of snow, and they won't leave the house. what's the big deal? we have snow here each winter. i have to get to my work by bicycle, and when i get late i get a grim look from my boss, even when there are 30cm of snow. if i'd tell her, i'm late because of the snow, she would tell me: "well, you could have got out earlier then."
:-)

snow days rock. move to canada.
Posted by Timlagor on 2010-01-06 07:47:54
"we have snow every winter" -that's the key: we don't. We don't get enough snow often enough for it to actually be worth investing in the infrastructure to deal with it properly.
Posted by StanRichardson on 2010-01-06 23:38:25
Malmir, the person wearing the jumper in newcastle was from down south, so we pushed him in the Tyne.
Looking nearly liek it might be a snow day here, SNOW DAY SMACKS....ICEY PITCHES ALL AROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Staying home because of snow? What are we talking about here, -20C, high winds and 20 cm of snow on the roads?
Welcome to the winter! Join the white side, we have skis! :-D
