'I tend to walk past groups of people in the street and criticise their formation – that’s an awful cage for a bus queue to be arranged into.'
Yup. Those kinds of thoughts creep into my mind as well! \o/

I see blood bowl formations in tile patterns quite often.

"I think Darkies are excellent in the ruleset"
I took my moderately skilled DE team Tre Fulham to the Black Cup finals and my more skilled FC Dallas to the Round of 32 in the FC. DE has easily become my favorite race for the defensive qualities and skill needed to win against the bashers. One area that I have begun to explore with DE is developing the Runner into a pure passer. For instance, I had a runner with pass, surehands, +AG, +MA. Offensively I now could elf stall in the backfield or loose cage the Runner and Dump-off if pressed. To tell you the truth it made my offense nearly unstoppable with FC Dallas scoring 4, 5, and 4 TDs before losing to Malmir's CD 2-1.
A highly developed, diverse DE team is loads of fun!
Best of luck to you and finding that fire!

I think your challenge should be building your signature team, and Dark Elves would be a great way to go.

But clarksongoo said that dark elves are seriously uncool. On the other hand he said that rotters are sub-zero :)

Build a team into a legend like Dukes Mice In Black spend time on names and history, write awesome match reports. Fall in love with pixels by giving them history and character.

Vamps!
A couple of people have proven they are Major-worthy (I think of Tarabaralla's Principi in particular), and they are certainly a bit different and a good project-type team.

My main goal here on FUMBBL is to build a Ranked Major worth team playing only tournament matches. So only RRR, SMACK and XFL allowed...
I'm am average player at best, so I'm still trying to come up with a team decent enough for a SMACK after a RRR, but I'm sure you will have a much easier time than me!

Make a team.... make it a competitive team.... but self impose a rule that you must recieve one "sizzle" of approval every X many games (lets say 5). To earn a sizzle you need to take an unusual but not outright bad skill selection: something interesting and a little bit out there like a shadowing gutter runner, leaping human blitzer, or whatever. Ideally it should be something that you will actually make use of. You may or may not wish to require sizzles to be approved by Mr Gromril.
The idea is to end up with a good team but also something a little bit quirky and memorable.

Maybe it's a project outside of BB you need?
I really enjoy the few games I play on here every month now that I rarely play.
