NAF Live: Summer plans
Hi gang!
This past weekend, we saw another fun NAF Live tournament completed. The 3D Brawl marked our first US ruleset, and also the first time the US group was bigger than the European one! Unlikely to be a coincidence, that.
In Europe, Skuld's Lizards narrowly pipped Spartako's Woodies to the title on tie-breakers, and in America, Silkoun's Woodies took the spoils with a lesser-spotted 6/0/0. Well done! A special well done and thanks to Stingray, who did the vast majority of the work this time, ably assisted by Neilwat and a bit of Kryten. I didn't do a stitch of work myself this weekend, so all back pats to our Portuguese supremo, please!
It won't have escaped your notice that, again, numbers were down. All understandable and expected with lockdown being eased and the sun coming out (see also: overall FUMBBL stats). We have tournaments locked in and ready to go for July and August, but after the summer, we'll review plans as we'll see what the base level of attendance is across the summer months before thinking about September and beyond. For those of you that want to book weekends now, our next events are:
25/26 July: Thrudball (rules are not yet online for me to link for you, but this is a tiered ruleset where races get 1.2 million to spend on players and skills with a few interesting wrinkles. It's a touch different to what we've done before, and there are charitable aspects to the tournament we'll publicise nearer the time).
22 August: UK Games Expo tournament (snappier name to follow. This is a very vanilla ruleset indeed).
23 August: Polish Open (a very complicated ruleset akin to the Danish Open we previously hosted. Hopefully a nice counterpoint to the UK Expo tournament, and coaches that can only play one day in a weekend can select the sort of one-dayer they want to participate in).
So - there you have it. More NAF Live to follow later in the summer! Until then, stay well and safe!

A great example of the forward thinking of Mike Davies and his mark as NAF commish to work with Christer to get NAF and FUMBBL aligned... and spectacular coordination and implementation by Purplegoo and the NAF as a whole. Cordial back slaps all around, folks!

Actually, the original kickoff of the NAF holding tournaments on FUMBBL was in Beppe’s time as President, and it was kind of Joemanji’s idea when he was TO of the NAF Championship (although we ended up in a far better place than he / I ever imagined we could thanks to Christer’s help and support). This NAF Live engagement has been on Gaixo’s watch as President. All that said, I’m sure both chaps won’t mind me saying they have had limited involvement; they aren’t big FUMBBLists.
Mike has been a part of a very good team we’ve put together for delivering these NAF Live events, and he does deserve a back pat if we’re giving them out. I don’t list all of the guys all of the time, but they know who they are. It’s rare BB volunteers get too many thumbs up or back pats, so I suppose it’s a good thing I haven’t met too many in it for the fame and glory. ;)
